Brown Fall 2010 Transfer Thread

nope…oh well…i’m not interested in spring transfer anyway.

Man now I really need to get into brown, only 4% got into dartmouth and it doesn’t count me. Oooo I’m going to go hitler if i don’t get in now.

Hey guys! I’m asking a question on behalf of my bf, who has applied as a sophomore transfer.

He received an email this afternoon from Brown Admissions asking him to send them a current list of courses he is enrolled in, as well as the number of credits for each course – he has until Friday to respond.

I am assuming that they have misplaced this information (which, as you all know, had to be listed on a couple of the application materials), and are now asking for it in order to be able to fully review his application/make a decision.

Can anyone confirm my thoughts? Or can anyone refute them with a different explanation?

It sounds like the transcript he sent in originally didn’t list spring courses. The admissions site is pretty clear that they want the spring courses you’re registered for on the transcript you send in, so that’s probably all they were digging for.

I have yet to send in the secondary school report. I don’t even know why they need it. Do you guys think it’s still worth sending, seeing as how the online checklist isnt’t there anymore?

I didn’t, even though I indicated that I was interested in being considered for Spring.

@lobbz, if they don’ have your complete application you can’t even get in, that is even if they picked up your application and said lets admit this guy but realized you had no secondary report they would have to reject you and it means you wasted all your time.

I did not have spring put under mine but I think I said I would take either semester.

Hey what % does brown typically admit from the transfer pool anyways

@glennnat

They admitted 121 out of 1468 (8.24%) transfers for fall 2009, with 87 of them enrolling. Source: <a href=“Office of Institutional Research | Brown University”>Office of Institutional Research | Brown University;

Although I remember somebody posted an article on here where Brown admissions said they plan on admitting up to an additional 50 students.

Anyone else unable to log in?

I logged in just a couple of minutes ago and there wasn’t a problem. Maybe it’s just a glitch in the site

I called the admissions office and they said decision letters will be mailed on the 11th, next Tuesday, but will not be released through the log in site.

transferstudent2: Yeah, I remember that article too. It was in the Brown Daily Herald. Here’s the link:

[The Brown Daily Herald - Next year’s transfer class to increase](http://www.browndailyherald.com/next-year-s-transfer-class-to-increase-1.2148863)

@Lobzz, The secondary school report is important. I thought that a high school transcript was enough and I wouldn’t have to send in a recommondation since my old high school counselor moved and no longer worked at the the school. When I called Brown about the secondary school report they told me that the counselor recommondation was the most important part of the form and that if my counselor was no longer there I needed to ask the school principal or another school official to write me one. Since they stressed it so much, I figured it was an important part of the application and without it, it may not be good… I ended up meeting with another counselor and spoke with her for a couple hours and got it taken care of but if you never turned it in I would call Brown or try to do something about it. Good Luck.

i called admissions as well and was told they would be mailed out on the twelfth. so we know fairly certainly that they will only be mailed out at around 11th/12th… i dont see why they cant post them up online then ugh im dying to know.

hey…they won’t release the decision online?
can anyone change their address online now? I cannot do that…
My alternate mailing address is my current dorm address and I am leaving on 12th…will they send the decision to my dorm instead of home??? I want to update but the website won’t allow me…

In that case I would try calling the admissions office. They’ll probably let you alter your address by email or over the phone if it’s your school address.

Why would they rather to send out admissions over the mail than through the computer when they have 1000 rejection letters to send and only 100 admittances roughly. Seems like a grand waste of paper to me. Why not just copy and paste the same letter to the 1000 rejects and the other same letter to the 100 admittances. Imagine how long it take sjust to seal 1100 envelopes. What a waste of trees and time. Now I have to wait weeks (because of an incompetent post man) to likely get my letter if at all.

In my experience
thick=good
thin=rejection letter.
Come on thick package.

To change your mailing address, you have to fax a form with your signature and the date on it to the admissions office. I just did this morning, since I’ll still be at school the week of decisions.

PaulaDanielle, nvilla…

Thank you…

glennat, i kinda have to agree with you about the inconvenience of only sending out letter decisions for both the brown adcom as well as for all of us applications. i think i might call al gore and start a protest about this ridiculous overusage of paper as well, it seems like environmental terrorism. but then again, if theres one thing that the o.c. taught me it is that brown doesnt look fondly on protesters…
