Brown Fall 2010 Transfer Thread

Me too! are you a theater major, by any chance? (Im an actress)

That was actually my plan originally, but I ended up changing to American Studies/Art History.

When people get their admission/rejection decision post what you applied for (program). I want to see if some programs are easier to get into than others

@Glennnat what concentration do you want to pursue at Brown?

I put business, have to check again the exact name

I emailed Brown, they said they will not put the decisions online - they’ll only mail them, and if you call, tell them to you.

Wait, so they are sending them to our Permanent Addresses by default? I don’t want it to go to my house. On the application I put down that I will be at my School Address until the end of June… Will they be following that, or just sending them to our Home/Permanent Addresses?

I will call them a little bit later… (Hopefully the lines are not too busy)

hello! i’m a little late to jump in here, but i’ve been hovering around this forum for a while. i should mention that it’s been very helpful to me, so thank you all very much. the spirit of such an informed and uncompetitive bunch as you is why websites like this are sometimes wonderful.

but enough of that. i actually have a question, which is why i’m posting up at all:

@FaitAccompli: are you saying that we are allowed to call brown on the 12th (or after) and ask for our decisions over the phone? are you quite sure of this? it seems very strange, and certainly uncommon, but perhaps i have misunderstood you. do tell?

@NEU2NU it’s probably best to call them and tell them you’re still at school and they should mail the decision there.

@palimpsest I mentioned I’m an international applicant, therefore, it’ll take more time to get to me, maybe that’s why they said I could call. However, if you have read the decision thread for last year’s transfer applicants, a lot of them called for their decisions.

Another lurker here… but I spoke with an admissions guy this morning… letters will be mailed out Wednesday morning, not Tuesday as we expected b4. I live in on the west coast, so I guess I won’t know my status until Friday or saturday

Yeah, its wed the 12th. isnt that what it always was?

I guess I should probably call on 13th…before I leave for England where calling would be a lot more expensive. lol.

I know I’m going to be too nervous to call. I rather wait the extra day or two. :P

I’ll call right after my last final

I’ve been hoping and dreaming of Brown for so long that it seems surreal that I’ll be hearing back from them soon… I’m sure the same goes for many of you. It’s my birthday on Thursday and it would be the best birthday EVER if I got in  But maybe Thursday is too soon for the letter to make it from RI to NY…

my exams are over so i have nothing to distract me but an 8-hour work day doing competitive marketing research (not very distracting)… i’m definitely calling in. good luck everyone!

I am willing to wait instead of calling in. The need to know is great, but not great enough to quiet the butterflies in my stomach and call in. :/

It would fun to call in and get accepted though… It would be like those Radio call-in games.

“Hello Caller #10, guess what? you just won a one way trip to Brown University!”

out of curiosity, is anyone else unsure about taking an offer if given one? as well, did anyone else visit and feel a little let down? i did not find it to be as intellectual a place as i had hoped…

^ Your comment about the lack of intellectualism at Brown is somewhat concerning since that’s what I’m looking for in my transfer institution.

As of now I’m pretty sure I’m gonna enroll at the University of Chicago. If I get into Brown as a Spring 2011 transfer, I’ll almost certainly turn down the offer; If, however, I get into Brown as a Fall 2010 transfer, there’s a chance I might attend. In that case I would have to visit campus to get a feel for life at Brown, as well as gauge the level of intellectualism in the atmosphere.

Im like 85% sure I’ll turn down, if accepted, which I won’t be. I’d rather stay closer to home and nix the ‘studies’ part from the ‘theater’ degree. :)
