Brown Music Supplement?

Hi, I am a senior from Alaska applying to Brown University for engineering.

For the music supplement, it says on Brown’s website that they DO NOT want the Common App supplement, instead they want one through their own SlideRoom Website. Anyways, it kind of specifies that they want a classical piece, but could I also do a rock/roll piece? I was thinking about playing flight of the bumblebee on the piano, then doing another one on my guitar playing Eruption by Van Halen. Would they not like that?

Thank you in advance

on a second thought, could I sing/play along on the piano a pop song?

They tend to prefer classical submissions unless you’re interested in musical theatre or something like that. Have you been taking guitar lessons or been trained on the piano? The arts supplement is really a place to show what you’ve accomplished in your ECs.

I never took formal lessons on the piano but I’ve been playing for a long time. And yes I have taken guitar lessons. Will it be okay to do Van Halen??

I would suggest against it. Talk to your guitar teacher and see if he/she has had previous student who did supplements.
