Brown Transfer Admission Statistics, etc.

From the Brown Daily Herald 9/7/06:

"Only 22 new transfer students entered Brown this fall, down from 145 last year. These 22 students, selected from the largest ever transfer applicant pool, represent an acceptance rate of between 5 and 6 percent, meaning that it was "much harder to get in as a transfer than it was as a freshman," according to Dean of Admission Jim Miller '73."

KFL, if you read the rest of the article it really gives the impression that the school, as a whole, is not happy with the sudden decrease in transfer students. Hopefully their imput will help us out this spring.

and this fall...

I am a sophomore transfer at Brown. First off, send your midterm report. All the transfers I have talked to had some story about what over the top thing they did to make their applications stand out. With a 6 percent acceptance rate, they are looking for reasons to dismiss your application and not showing continued interest will give them just that. There were something like 40 transfers this year, I actually just had a deans meeting this afternoon and he said he has heard that the number this year is going to be more around 90-100 which is good news. However, Brown had over 19,000 applicants this year which was the record high, only breaking last years old record, so I would imagine the trend will also continue in more kids who were dissapointed last year applying to transfer this year, meaning the 6 percent statistic probably will not change that drastically. Best of luck to everyone on this board, transferring to Brown has undoubtedly been the biggest influential decision of my life; the Brown experience can truly not be given justice on this board.

sending in supplements when they explicitly state that they don't want any is kinda weird... I'll have to think about this

My school doesnt have official midterm reports, do i just get every teacher to sign off? But how will the schools check that i didnt make it up?

the professor signature makes the grade and "official" approximation. Also, I included a little statement saying that I got the grades legitimately and signed it (copied from penn's mid-term report)

Im applying to several schools and when i make the midterm report with the teacher signatures is it alright to make one and make copies so that the teachers dont have to sign like a hundred pages or does that make it less "official"? also should i provide phone numbers for college to call and very ?

I made copies of mine, I'm sure schools understand that your professors are busy. Fortunately my far and away first choice (Cornell) had their own sheet so that at least is an original copy if it makes a difference.

but the application deadline has already passed...are people still sending mid-year grades? I agree about the whole sending in the supplement when they specifically didnt ask for it...its kinda weird. and it seems like this shouldn't bother people anymore because they have already sent in the applicaiton...i dunno, this thread is confusing the hell outta me...

It's stated quite clearly on the transfer admission page that, "If necessary, an interim unofficial transcript of current work may be submitted". That sentence wouldn't be on the page if they weren't accepting midterm reports. If you midterm grades are just as solid as your first semester grades, submitting them will only help.

does anyone now something about RUE Transfer? My girlfriend applied, but she isn't getting any contact? No interview, anything......

They have at least started calling for RUE interviews. My friend got a call late last week.

I sent the a print out of midterms from our online registrar, but didn't have them signed. I presume they trust applicants...

Yeah, and if the printout is at least mildly official looking, I'm sure it won't be a problem. I'm going to do the same thing once my midterm grades are in.

I also think it depends on your gpa, if you have a 2.0 and you are reporting midterms of a 4.0, I'd get it signed

so, if i sent one to another school, could i just copy that and use the form (but take off the other college's name? I feel bad about asking my professors for grades again...also, I sent in a list with descriptions of current courses...should I even bother? I have 4 As and 1 B+/A-...

When I asked them, they said they simply wanted to see courses in progress, and that I didn't need to go out of my way and make a mid-semester report. However, I don't suppose it can hurt (unless you've tanked this semester), so take that for what you will.

they e-mailed me asking for mid-semester report. I don't know what to do. My midterms are going to be only after spring break . 10 more days. what should i submit? The trancript without the grades?

they e-mailed you?? that might be an amazing sign...
