Anyone else on this mysterious wait list? A transfer wait list is a rather strange idea, considering that the freshmen class has already enrolled -- I also doubt that Brown is overly concerned about ensuring a high number of transfer applicants... I can only guess that this list has something to do with available financial resources... How big can a wait list be with only 800 total applicants, anyway?

it also might have something to do with whether their students are transferring or leaving and available places then. I doubt financial resources would be that tight at a place like brown (they are, or are supposed to be, need blind)

They are very much need-aware for transfer admission, I am sure of that much.

hmm, I just got into Brown. This is the second Ivy League that took me. Looks like the east coast got a lot of love for me, a CA boy.

what's the acceptance rate of brown?

I think it is around 20%, I cannot be sure. The numbers are on collegeboard.com, though I do not know if they are accurate.

Congratulations, by the way.

thank you.

do you guys think it'd be totally lame if I got a parent to write a letter in plea of admission in fall rather than spring?

im getting kinda desperate.

I think (as told by a stanford adcom), sending stuff actually can't hurt you AT ALL. but those deseprate pleas usually don't work so well.

I have written pleas to schools last year and have my parents visited their admission office, didn't work.

Unless you have a totally convenincing (sp) new piece of info or if your parents are powerful.

Red, I am not sure if they would let you do this, but why not just take the fall off and get an internship or job or something like that.

hm my parents definitely arent that powerful.

my situation is rather urgent, i dont have housing at my present institution and off-campus housing is not a choice + NYU housing waitlist is never gonna get me anywhere.

i guess my question is...would it be better if I signed it myself? or does it just look desperate no matter what..

i would reallly want to travel...

my parents laughed at that.
it kinda sucks cause i cant even enroll into a community college--i have to keep shelling out 50K at NYU if i want to take classes between now and spring.

I just got waitlisted at Brown...wasn't expecting that... :-/

well natiebee ull have one spot open for you i just sent in my "no thanks" card ;)

igarvey-

the transfer coordinator told me today there were exactly 40 people picked for the waitlist this year. the number will probably change as all people picked usually don't elect to remain active. i was told the projected waitlist will probably be around 30 or so.

haha thanks northrams, where u going in the fall?

I thought you were going to Harvard Nattie.

natiebee, i visited yale yesterday to make sure i was 100% on it. I loved it, so i sent in my deposit today.

Well, I have every intention of at least attempting to get in from the waitlist, considering how small it is... I hope I'm not competing with freshmen waitlistees.

Brown made their decision without my dean's letter, which apparently was lost. The dean of my school knows me very well (he was my professor two years ago), so do you think having that re-sent would help? I also plan on submitting some sort of update concerning financial circumstances.
