I’ve been rejected at all my reaches so far, so I’m not holding out hope for Brown. Short of a miracle…it’s not happening.
@Qwerty568 in the same boat as you. Rejected by UVA, Northwestern, and Duke, and waitlisted by Johns Hopkins and Georgetown. I’m losing hope
Chill guys. I got rejected by my highest reach, UPenn ED, and my lowest reach, Gtown. Same exact results for my best friend with identical GPA and ec’s and he got into Johns Hopkins. This whole process is like a big coin toss. Once you reach a certain line with SAT’s and GPA and ECs, its all random. I don’t expect to get into Brown, but I haven’t given up all hope just yet because I have seen how random it is.
@pianogeek I’ve been rejected at JHU, Rice, and Tufts (and let’s be real…Brown too) and waitlisted by Berkeley. My parents want me to take a gap year at this point.
@Qwerty568 Did you not apply to any safeties?
@dhizzy of course…I’m in at Northeastern, McGill, and Occidental.
@Qwerty568. Take another look at Northeastern. They’ve come a long way in the last 10 years. Might be worth a visit.
@Qwerty568 those safeties are so different. What led you to choose those? Just curious; I’m an Oxy fan but it so much smaller and warmer than NE. McGill cool too but cold! Are you looking for small classes? What would your major be?
@SoapyMango I’ll be totally honest- my top choice going into this year was the university of Edinburgh. When I got a conditional offer in October (basically they told me they wanted to see my AP calculus exam score from this year), I panicked- the admissions officer I had met with had essentially told me I was guaranteed acceptance. I literally just applied to any school that had my major I thought I could get into. I want to double major in cognitive science and computer science, so at least that narrowed it down a bit. It really wasn’t until I stopped and took a breather that I realized I applied to schools I knew nothing about and that I realistically didn’t want to go to. It was probably January when I realized that I didn’t apply to schools that I personally would fit well at- Vassar, the University of Rochester, BU- and that I applied to schools that I really don’t fit at- Northeastern, Berkeley, Fordham. That’s why I pinned so much on Tufts and Brown- of the schools I applied to, I honestly think they would fit me the best…which is why it hurt when I got rejected. I think socially Occidental is where I should go, but the lack of courses and tech offerings worry me, and i didn’t really want to go to a school where my stats would put me around the top of the pool. I like McGill, but I think it’s too big for me.
TL;DR: I panicked after a painful conditional acceptance and applied to schools that weren’t a great fit.
@tlbphd Northeastern is an excellent institution. They have indeed come a long way. However, I was not offered any merit aid and I did not feel, after a visit and communicating with other students that attend, that it is a good fit for me personally.
Good luck tomorrow everybody! I was deferred ED and it broke my heart haha… After that I kinda gave up on getting into any reach schools, but at this point I’m probably choosing between Tufts and Wesleyan and I’m honestly pretty happy. I can’t say I’m not holding out hope for Brown, because it really is my dream school. Nothing else compares. I was waitlisted from Duke and Amherst and rejected from Northwestern and Stanford so it’s not likely.
Rejected from Georgetown SFS so now I’m even more nervous about Brown
@chicagomike There are still a number of good colleges with late application dates. Note: Colorado School of Mines, University of Arizona, The University of Texas – Dallas, Penn State etc. What are you hoping to major in?

@justinn76 Welcome to the Penn+Gtown rejection club
@dhizzy Hahaha I’m so over this college process now and relying on reaches. I’m pretty confident with my safety Bentley University that I was accepted to with honors and almost full ride. If I get rejected from Brown and Cornell that’s where I am going. What about you?
My decisions have been all over the place. In at Gtown and Northwestern and three safeties. Rejected from my state schools(UCLA, UCB) plus Duke. Waitlisted at Boston College. I have no idea where I stand.
@lifeaquatic We’re quite similar! I was deferred ED and I’m choosing between Tufts and Wesleyan as well. I’m expecting a denial from Brown, and if I’m right, Tufts/Wes will be a really hard decision to make for me.
@justinn76 I got into Rutgers SAS Honors, Penn State (with half ride honors fellowship), Lehigh, Lafayette, and NYU (with 15000 merit). Kinda tough to decide where I want to go but I guess it’s a good problem to have
Hearing back from Brown, Dartmouth, Penn, and Yale tomorrow. It’s going to be an awful, awful day…
@AJ84567 Oh God I feel you. I also hear back from Brown, Dartmouth, and Penn tomorrow. I’m not going to be able to sleep tonight!! :((
