Brown University Class of 2019 RD Applicants

@whats9plus10‌ it’s definitely hard to choose! Tufts has the whole Boston/slightly larger thing going for it, but I feel like I would fit in a little better at Wes. tough decision. I’ll probably be going to the accepted students days for both haha.

I know that we’ve dismissed the bearsync thing but I’m honestly having fun customizing this profile (that I’ll probably never use).

Well, if no Ivies pan out for me tomorrow, I guess that I’m going to Northeastern. The thing is that I haven’t been there, and I don’t know what the atmosphere is like. Probably visiting next Saturday. Trying to temper my expectations tomorrow, because I know that I’m going to get rejected at all three Ivies that I applied to.

@lifeaquatic‌ We may literally be the same person. I have the same reasons for finding it a difficult decision. Maybe I’ll see you at both accepted students days

Good Luck @Qwerty568‌ Hope you get in tomorrow.

Have you asked Occidental Admissions about the combined program with Caltech? https://www.oxy.edu/academics/programs-majors/exchange-cooperative-programs

You could be a big fish in a small pond and have great mentor relationships with your professors. just a thought…and I realize transportation isn’t too easy so I’m not sure about cost/car, etc…

Sooooo nervous!! This is my top Ivy! After getting rejected from Stanford on Friday, I’m feeling a bit discouraged. Good luck to you all tho!

@whats9plus10‌ haha maybe i’ll see you around if we end up the same place!

@SoapyMango‌ Thank you, I really appreciate it. I’ve made a lot of mistakes in high school and my actions during the college admissions process were only a few of them. Everything is a learning experience if you make it one! I know about their combined program with Caltech and while it is very interesting, it is incredibly difficult to get into, and…well, I’ll put it this way- I’m not exactly the caliber of student that Caltech is looking for. We’ll see if that changes in three years. I probably will end up at Oxy- and who knows? I might just love it.

Guys, where else are you waiting for? Just Brown?

Harvard, Yale(deferred), Princeton, UPenn and Dartmouth @Jones22222‌ I know I’m gonna get rejected or waitlisted but I’m satisfied with the fact that I tried.

Cornell and Brown

Do you guys think the common app essay actually matters?

Accepted by Boston College, Williams College, Cornell University, William and Mary University, Johns Hopkins and George Washington University … Waiting for Brown tomorrow… If reject by Brown University then make a decision Cornell University or Williams College…

@addiep22 It does. It is one of the core components of your application.

How much do you think it matters?

It’s you best chance to show your personality and if your character fits the school. It’s also a tool of persuasion and a way to stand out among thousands of other applicants with identical stats.

what does a great essay do? Any examples?

Last year I met a person who got in Yale with a 1990 SAT. Seems impossible but according to him his essay played in his favor. Essay is very important and so are many other factors. @addiep22‌

A student with a 3.7 gpa and a 2150 SAT score with okay ec’s can use the essay to creatively highlight their intellectual ability/personality in a way that makes them more desirable than a student with a 4.0 gpa and 2400 SAT score who doesn’t write a good essay. My friend got into JHU with a 3.5 gpa and 2100 SAT. His essay made him an attractive candidate.

Essays have the power to make you more than just another applicant or just another student will stellar grades. I used my essays as an opportunity to reflect on my personality rather than my achievements. I put my heart into them, and I think that is the way to write a good essay. I hope that everyone is hanging in there. I am very nervous myself for my Brown decision, so I have compassion for you guys.
