CA essay on the Time I debated a IN state senator at a LGBT rights committee meeting.
Letter of recommendation from an IVY league research professor who is my research mentor.
I had a phone interview.
Also applied to Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Penn, Columbia
Already in at Northwestern, vanderbilt, Berkeley, wash u, NYU
My Brown Essays were pretty good. My Harvard and Yale essays were better but that’s because those prompts were more esoteric and I got to talk about an artistic work. My why brown essay was certainly better than my why penn essay. Only problem for me applying to brown is that the only other student who also got a 36 in my school also applied. And she was also the best coder in my state.
I feel like my common app essay helped me but the controversial nature of LGBT rights may have been the reason I was wait listed at more conservative Georgetown.
You have a good chance, but why are you asking us to chance you after you’ve already applied? Chance me stuff is for when you are deciding where to apply.
@Mtinkey01 By looking at your grades, I would say it now comes down to luck and how good your essays are. Since I can only guess based on what I have learned about Brown, I am not exactly sure of your chances. However, I think you are an ideal candidate, and I hope that you get accepted.
I ended up writing a bit of an acrostic poem about my Model UN club for my groups and communities essay. I’m not really regretting that decisions but hopefully it conveyed what I wanted to convey which is a lot more than I thought I could convey about MUN in a traditional paragraph for me personally.
That is pretty cool. I did something creative for one of my supplementary essays. Since I have never felt like I have belonged where I currently live due to opposing viewpoints, I wrote an eviction notice from the people in my town. It conveyed the town where I grew up as well as how the towns lack of acceptance contributed to who I am today. I really love your idea though. Very creative, @collegeconfused6
Got rejected from all my reaches: Stanford, Northwestern, Chicago (deferred then rejected ) Penn ED. Got into Cal, UCLA, UCSD, NYU, UIUC. So no hope. Jeeez. I’ll be glad when all this is over.
Good Luck everyone! You all have worked very hard to get where you want to today and so be proud of yourself! You have done your part that is all in your control and what happens tomorrow is really not in your control. So, embrace the results, whatever may be tomorrow and i wish you nothing but the bestest. You are all like my children and i whole heartedly wish you only the best. Everything will be fine and you will shine no matter where you end up going!
Students in general need to stop thinking stats can get you into these schools. (I’m not referring to any of you guys) I just found out today, to my surprise, that the Sal of my class with a 34 ACT and tons of Leadership got flat out rejected from Brown ED. I got in ED and to PLME with a 29 but my Common App essay brought everyone to tears who read it and one of my LOR’s was literally over the top amazing. The intangibles are tilting the scales in a big way imo and I think people put a lot more time into test prep than essays and building appropriate relationships for LOR’s. I think once you hit a certain threshold, it all becomes about the intangibles.
@lax1997 i agree! its not all about stats! I think its about ur character, strengths, and talents. Make ur community happier, invent something, or simply tell a life changing story! Do something big like that and i believe colleges would definitely consider u…but idk anything haha…ik there are so many kids who get in w/o >~2,000 SATS and perfect GPAs. And, remember, God Willingly, we will all be successful
@Mtinkey01 Um, I’m not sure why you were waitliated at Georgetown but it wasn’t because of your views on LGBT rights. Whoever told you Georgetown is conservative clearly hasn’t talked to any of the faculty or students. GU has a very strong LGBT presence and they’re super accepting (or at least what I saw from my visit and from experience).
Yeah that’s true. It may have been my interview experience instead. It was by far my worst interview and the alumni asked me to list all the other schools I applied to and where I applied early. I found that to be very awkward and I also didn’t really connect well with my interviewer.
Hey so I’m new here, applied PLME RD. I find out tomorrow, and my ACT is also not as high as some of the other people’s (30). If you don’t mind me asking, do you have any other stats? I have a 3.98 GPA and I’m 3/300 in the class. I think my weighted GPA is around 5.8 or 5.9 and I’ve taken 12 AP classes overall, along with some dual credit. But because of that ACT score, I’m just really riding on my essays. I really poured my heart and soul into them lol. I also have done rotations at a hospital, I am an NHS officer, JSA Vice President, speech/debate team champ (plus some other EC’s/hobbies here and there) and I submitted an art portfolio in addition to my app. Idk I’m just super stressed, so I apologize in advance if I sound annoying by posting about my stuff. It’s just been eating away at me all day, because I know there are so many AMAZING applicants. And everyone in this thread alone is just amazing in all their accomplishments so it’s tough competition lol.
