So on the Common App I put architecture down as a secondary field of study. I don’t see any STEM supplements on the app, but I’m not sure if they just aren’t there or I just can’t find them. My primary interest is Literary Arts.
I believe you only get the STEM supplement if your primary area of indicated interest is a STEM field.
Architecture is not one of the fields that require the supplemental questions. The STEM supplemental questions are for engineering, applied math, chemistry, computer science, geology, math and physics. The questions show up whether you list the STEM concentration as your first choice or second choice.
additional recommendations for brown can be sent through email from the person writing your additional rec right?
@k944417 lmao actually though i’m seriously questioning why I’m eaing there tbh
do slideroom supplements have to be turned in by nov 1 as well? i honestly have so many photos that i need to go through and i also have to put some finishing touches on my essays!!!
honestly I have so much to do right now but nonetheless I’m enjoying the college app process. I really like my essays but ya know gotta do those final edits before i send my app off :,) (then its time to start uc essays rip)
@jejiang lol same
I’m still on the fence about applying early to Brown… versus Cornell. How did you guys decide to choose Brown?
I know they’re quite different, but I’m just not sure. How would they compare? What would a student who “fit” be like?
@featherkin honestly, I already knew that I wanted to go to a smaller school. Cornell is a really popular school amongst my high school overall, and I didn’t want college to be a repeat of high school. At the same time, of all the people I know who are at Cornell (20+) not a single of them have any complaints-- they love it. Academically, both schools are top notch and ultimately, I think it depends on which campus environment you like the most. When I visited Brown, my gut feeling was that this is the school I have to ED to. Brown is known for being a bit more quirky and very liberal, and Cornell is also a pretty liberal school. If you like both equally, then I would go with the school you think you have a higher chance getting in to (a good friend of mine was in a similar situation between Cornell and UPenn and that’s what she’s doing).
@featherkin I was in the same situation as you until a month ago! I was pretty set on applying early to Cornell for ages especially since I have legacy, but I ultimately decided to apply early to Brown because it has more of an undergraduate focus and would give me the opportunity to explore my other interests more (obviously it would depend on which school within Cornell you would be applying to).
@featherkin statistically, cornell is easier to get into than brown. both have excellent engineering programs!
@sakibdurlob - CIE A Level student from India here. Applied ED for Math.
Hi everyone,
I just submitted my ED application to Brown. Here are my stats:
– GPA: 4.0
– ACT: 34
– AP Scholar with Distinction (9 AP’s)
– National Honor Society
– Extracurriculars in science and also arts (I want dual concentration of applied math and art history
– Solid essays
I’m feeling pretty good about my application, however I just heard that two girls from my school also applied ED? Does Brown have a “quota” on how many kids get in per high school?
Thanks!
@greeksalad123 you seem to have a solid chance, but where are you from and what’s your ethnicity?
I’m from New York City and I’m a white male.
@greeksalad123 I stand by what I said. If you convey a coherent story, I think you’ll be a very competitive applicant. But Brown is very quirky in its decision making, so nothing can be predicted accurately. Good luck!
@greeksalad123 I’m from nyc too!
No. But.
When 9 out of every 10 applicants is denied, the chances of one student/high school getting in is remote, so getting more than one accepted is even more difficult. It happens – but it’s more likely that you will all be denied.
OTOH, if you’re talking about a school like Stuyvesant, there are multiple acceptances.
What are some of you guys writing about for “Why Brown?” Just curious to see why others are choosing Brown.
@HB1999 Did you take the IELTS/TOEFL exam?
