@jesssssw You seem to be in the same position as me: ECs, classes, Gpa, etc. are all fine but not our test scores. What worries me is last year, Brown did not accept anyone with an ACT composite below a 30.
Really!? Im hoping I can score better on the fall SAT and ACT but it’s cutting it close for the early decision deadline.
@Seirien I don’t know if that’s true. On Borwn’s CDS, in section C9, it says that 15.58% of freshmen at Brown had an ACT composite between 24 and 29 for the 2015-2016 school year.
@ap012199 Oh, my friend must’ve fed me the wrong information. Sorry haha. I’m curious but if someone were to take the ACT in sept and oct, would the October score, if sent immediately when you registered, be in on time for ED?
@Seirien I believe so
You can check their website to find out
do you guys know how important sat subject tests are for brown? i took the act, and i also took 2 subject tests. I’m happy with one of the tests, but i think i could do better on the second one. is it worth it? does brown really care about subject tests if you take the act? any help would be appreciated, thanks!
@allima a Brown adcom told me that if you submit the ACT, they don’t even look at/consider subject tests
do letters of rec have to be from 11 or 12 th grade core class teachers?
It all depends on income and assets. Brown looks at equity of home and rental property. Basically, if your parents own property they take that largely into account when calculating financial aid. The system is kinda screwed there are a few ways around it but if you don’t own property and parents don’t make a ton of money, I assume the FA will be reasonable.
I have heard that brown is need blind, but is Briwn also Race blind? I am Puerto Rican, not sure if that URM status will help at all
@kendizzle Brown is NOT “race blind”. You WILL have an advantage applying as a Puerto Rican (URM).
@kendizzle being Puerto Rican will help. Although many schools say that they are need blind, there are ways that the school can find out whether a certain applicant plans to fill out the FAFSA.
“Is Brown also Race blind?”
Why does it matter? If you want to apply and think you have a decent chance, do it!
anyone know when the supplementary prompts are out?
@comicsans August 1st I believe
Ok so for the supplements, does anyone have any idea how literal the ‘where you have lived’ essay is? Would it be too risky to take an “artsier” approach to that particular supplement?.
@kendizzle I think Brown literally wants to know where you have lived; however, you can express that in many creative ways. You probably don’t have to even state the name of the city (maybe since you’re only allowed 150 words). Maybe you could just creatively describe unique attributes of places you’ve lived. Giving it a whimsical touch would be interesting. Good luck!
I think Brown wants to see how you write, what you can do with the prompt.
I officially decided to apply to Brown ED
