My friend took Intro to Game Theory at Brown last summer and said that it was pretty great.
You never know if it is the same professor teaching.
My Global teacher majored in History (obviously), but also had an auxiliary minor in Drama, and took courses on Ancient Theatre, which she said that she loved.

The professor name is under the course description, I believe...

Anyone else?

To all those concerned about the delay in response to a request for a brochure, do not be worried. Brown doesn't know anything bad about you.

Consider, if you will, a series of rooms filled with 19,000 applications for admission, all of which must be answered by late march. Also, the applications are potentially worth 45,000 dollars apiece for the University. All of a sudden, a request for a brochure which (at its most valuable) is worth 8,000 dollars becomes somewhat accessory.

Please (for my sake as I am one of 19,000) do not contact the office to get another brochure. If you are interested, you WILL be accepted, the university wants you to come and fall in love with the school (just like i did).

So don't worry; they will get around to you, but they've got bigger priorities right now.

Oh, by the way Summer@ Brown was the time of my life.

actually -- feel free to contact them and request another brochure. The summer program office is not connected to the admissions office, it is part of the summer and continuing studies department. They are still plenty busy this time of the year gearing up for the summer -- but they are not also dealing with undergraduate admissions.

I received an email from them yesterday-- they are out of brochures. They will email you a pdf of the the brochure or perhaps one can be obtained online.

are they very selective when it comes to summer applicant admissions?

cybercheesecake -- I will repost what I wrote on this topic in a another thread:

"first -- many of the kids on this board speak of "selective" and "not very selective" in ways that don't really apply to every day kids out there. the selective programs (like TASP and RSI) accept only a very limited number of students. it seems like everyone thinks that if they aren't super difficult to get into, they are "not very selective". I disagree -- I will admit that the majority of kids applying to these precollege programs probably get in but realize that the applicant pool tends to be self selecting. Kids who hate school, are just barely passing and might be graduating from high school in order to attend beauty school are probably not interested in spending the summer at Brown studying physics and the social history of aborigines. These college programs don't take every kid, either -- they are looking for kids who are genuinelly interested in a college experience and their recommendations and grades need to show an interest in academics. That doesn't mean you need high stats -- my guess is that anyone with a 3.0 and decent recs can get in."

You can download a brochure online, if you put in your info. Honestly there's less info on the brochure then online, I'd reccomend just browsing the site.

I just sent in the online app. Applied for Art of Reading and Writing mini course, I'm a liberal arts person. Hopefully I'll have all the rest of the stuff sent in by Saturday, snow day today so I've got to get the teacher rec.

thanks!

oh yes, my i ask [@hsmomstef] ... how long til your son got accepted? i mean upon brown receiving his complete apps.

my son heard back in about 4 weeks (he sent it in just before christmas -- and heard back mid-january)

they said that it generally takes one ten days to decide-- is this always the same?

I am not sure -- they don't have anything specific on the website. My guess is that you should hear back in about 2 weeks, unless you apply for FA, there is a holiday, you are missing something they requested -- or you apply at a later time when they are getting a bunch of applications.

oh alright. i sent in my apps. and it said in the website that they received it all [complete] 2.07.07.

guess i'll know in a week.

thanks guys!

does anyone know when we get out roommates?

I just got accepted!
Introduction to Standard Arabic, Session 4A-- I just filled out my acceptance forms--

when do we find out about roommates?

did you request a specific roommate?

congrats on getting in!!

how is the financial aid for the program?

i summer in newport and last summer my cousin and i went into the city (providence) and were walking around and met some brown kids and they were really chill - my cousin happened to know some kid who went there. i've been wanting to apply since, but i''m not sure if i should go for the 7 week program or the mini course 3 week program. this summer i wanted to maybe study abraod in france before going to a competitive boarding school w/ advanced languages.. but those are so expensive and have no fa.. plus, most of them are for kids aged 13-16, and i'm 16 (soph) and mature for a 16 yr old so it would be tough to be around mostly kids the whole time... but i also want to relax this summer.. i want to draw and play tennis and surf and just chill, which i usually do in newport.. and if i did the 7 week program that would take up 70-80% of my summer! i need to relax this summer because i've been working like a madman every single day w/ minimal socializing (! brutal!) and whatnot and... ugh but 7 weeks of ivy college as a sophomore.. (ive already taken college classes).. that would look so great on my transcript... and... ugh!! what to do?

oh.. also.. the tennis championships at the tennis hall of fame are from july 9-15.. and i almost always go..yet most of the courses are held during this time.. sucks! you think they will let me leave for the weekend or something (if someone comes to pick me up)?

or could i sneak out? say, instead of walking aorund downtown providence or something, someone could come pick me up and bring me back to newport for the day?
