Bryant Hall

Any Room left in Bryant? Talked to a friend and he said he’d room with me in an honors dorm or Bryant since were both engineering students.

Actually never mind, were thinking East or West Riverside now.

Glad to hear you found a roommate. IIRC you asked about being able to afford the honors dorms, so I’m also glad to hear you found a solution to that problem.

My son and his roommate are both engineering majors and were able to get in Riverside West last night no problem. Lots of rooms left in Riverside East for sure, some still in West. Hope y’all get to meet up!

My d is also in Riverside West and an Engineering Major.

^ as is my son :)

I really like Riverside for Engineering majors…it’s almost become like a Honors Engineering housing. Not that other majors wouldn’t feel welcome, it’s just that it’s placed well for engineering and science buildings.

is this where your son/s are or are they off campus now?

Right now…one is in Lakeside (was in Riverside before) and the other is in Ridgecrest South.

Next year, one will be in The Bluff, and the other will be in Riverside. < he’s the eng’g major.

M2CK: For future reference, is The Bluff considered on-campus housing for NMF scholarship recipients?

duh - sorry, no big thing but DS is Engineering in Ridgecrest West… trying to get that straight! Knew it began with an “R”

I don’t know if Freshmen are allowed at the Bluff’s. The Bluff’s is reserved for UA Honor’s students however the housing contracts have additional costs. Not only is the cost per semester higher than Honors Housing, my son mentioned that students in the Bluff’s have to pay for summer months wether they are there or not.

I do not know how the contract is worded.

momof3boyz: I didn’t word that right. I know that freshman can’t live there but I was wondering for future years if that was a living space that the NMF students could apply their housing scholarship money towards. My bad…

RobD…

Right now, The Bluff is not considered to be “off campus.” My son’s NMF scholarship pays for the 3 bedroom. However, he opted for the 2 bedroom, so we’ll have to pay an upcharge for the 2 bedroom.

I don’t know if this policy will stay. The Bluff has just been a buffer for Bama to use to accommodate the larger demand for the suites-style housing.

The Bluff is super nice…each bedroom has a large closet and a private bathroom. Each apt has its own washer and dryer. I think each apt also has an extra office room. Each kitchen has granite countertops and stainless appliances…quite luxurious for college kids. LOL

I was wondering if more upperclassmen move back to Riverside because of the proximity to the engineering and science buildings, as they’ll be attending more classes in those buildings as they concentrate more on their major and have most of their core curriculum under their belts. Son was surprised that the Riversides were not totally empty, as he had a Tuesday pick. I wonder if there are a lot of returning students there, as there were still spaces in the much coveted Ridgecrest dorms when he chose, yet there were not an unlimited number of spaces available in Riverside West. That’s fine. Upperclassmen will provide good guidance for the kids, giving them advice on class sections, professors, and maybe even some much needed homework help.

As much as my son liked the Bluff’s, he decided to stay at Riverside for convenience. He too was offered spots in the 2BR units but did not want to pay the upcharges or summer charges.
Parking on campus was also taken into condideration. He rides his bike most of the time. Finding a spot for his bike would be much easier that finding a spot for his car.

True about the summer charges…that’s why my son is only going into The Bluff for senior year…no summer charges that way. :)

Several students might have chosen to move into the Ridgecrests and Lakesides as upperclassmen because they could trim their meal plans and do their own cooking in the kitchens provided. That’s one of the reasons my son and his friends chose Ridgecrest West. If students bring cars, they might prefer the Ridgecrests and Riversides over Lakeside. The parking lot at Lakeside is small, and there can be some fierce battles for spots.

^^^Those are definitely the primary reasons why upperclassmen choose certain dorms. You have to weigh all the factors and decide which residence hall would be best for that year.

We picked Riverside East after talking with my cousin about it. He stayed at Riverside east and then bryant before he graduated. Said from what he could tell East was generally quieter and had better parking than west, but west was closer to some places. Not much though.

Gonna pick my room tonight @8:00
