BS. Construction Management + MS. Engineering (Specialized in BioEng)

Hello all,

I'm an undergrad at Cal Poly majoring in Construction Management (which is in the school of Architecture and Environmental Design, not Engineering).

I can graduate in 2 years with my B.S., but I'm not really in a rush to graduate given the state of the economy (and especially the state of Construction).

I really, really love construction, and entering Cal Poly, it was (and still is) my goal for my profession to be Construction. However, I'm unsure as to how Construction will recover over the next 2-3 years (when I graduate), and the long term stability of construction.

If construction is a weak sector in the future, I can foresee companies treating us poorly (lower pay, requiring longer hours, moving us more often than normal). I want to have a family one day, and have to take that into consideration.

That being said, I love the life sciences, but never fell in love with it professionally like I did with construction. Still, I'm planning on minoring in engineering-related biotechnology (adding on an extra 2 quarters to my graduation). Due to the classes required, and some overlap with engineering classes for Construction Management, the minor and CM bring me within 17 units (two classes and a 9 unit design thesis) of a Masters in Engineering with a Specialization in Bioengineering.

I've always wanted to get a Masters, but I figured it would be either an MBA or a M. Arch.

In any case, I kind of wanted to get some opinions on this. Will the Masters in Eng. help me at all in construction management?

I could see the CM helping with the Masters in Eng, as the management aspect would carry over for engineering management...

I know Cal Poly is strong in terms of undergrad engineering -- what about graduate? How is their Bioengineering program?

Will I really be taken seriously with a M.S. in (Bio)Engineering if I have a B.S. in a non-engineering or non-life sciences field?
