I encourage you to apply for the UCSD program. The fact that you were invited means that you are qualified. I have received my fair share of rejections but that hasn’t discouraged me from applying, simply because a slim chance is better than no chance. Also, the application is by no means a hassle. You need 2 letters of recommendations (and you’ve probably asked many teachers by now) and an optional 3rd. The essay is a straightforward “Why do you want to be a doctor?”-type essay and shouldn’t require too much effort.

Vouloir:
Thanks for the encouragement. I already knew the details and I was expecting the invite because it is a straight forward cut off - 2250 SAT or 34 ACT and 4+ GPA - but I was a little disappointed with all the results so far (may be the last ones will be the lucky ones - Brown and Rice - two of the toughest in all!!!). I just felt that something was lacking in my scores/EC/resume.

May be I will reconsider - they invite 1300, 300 of them actually apply, they call 50 for interview and select 12!!!.

Santos: No, I have not heard anything so far from Rutgers.

Anyone here knows anything about Rutgers/UMDNJ program and whether interviews are complete? Their original email said the interviews start mid-Jan and goes through Feb but with just another 12 days to go in Feb, I have to assume that they are done…???

From the Caltech UG admissions office today:

“Here’s the update: EA students who are under consideration for the Medical Scholars Program should learn whether they have been chosen for an interview by the end of February (the original date was 2/15). The final selection will be made by April 1. If we have any more updates, I’ll keep you posted…”

The information distributed last year for the class of 2014 indicated that they received 210 EA applications for the program, admitted 29 EA, selected 16 for interviews, and made 9 offers to enroll 6 students.

Oh so sorry to hear that agnijay Where did you hear from?

As nice as it is to get into one of these combined programs we need to all remember it is just one possible route for a career in the medical field. I even sometimes wonder if it’s such a good thing for my child to committed to one place for 8years so early in her life.

Most combined degree applicants are all great students and they probably have offers at many good schools for other undergraduate programs. Still good options I’m sure.

if you haven’t been contacted by boston yet for their med program and you look at your boston applicant link and it says our records indicate that review of your application is complete, does that mean you didn’t get an interview?
