My d just got assigned to 199 Bay State Road housing and was disappointed that she’s not going to have the “freshmen dorm” experience plus her roommate is an upper classman. Personally, I thought these brownstones are beautifuland probably have more rooms. She is in CFA school so its a little far away from her classes. She wants to request for a change, what are her chances? Should she even bother with the change? Any suggestions or more information about these brownstones. Thanks

It really depends on your daughter’s personality and who else is in her house. Most of the people in brownstones are upperclassmen, although at least 10% of them will be filled with freshmen. They are definitely a quieter environment.

When she gets to school, she can apply for a direct swap in one of the larger dorms (probably West or Warren if she’s looking for the “freshman experience”), where basically she fills out a form and it gets posted in the residence hall. Someone who is looking for a room in a brownstone can then switch with her. I’d suggest she give it a try, because she has to remain in the brownstone for at least 2 weeks anyway.

Thank you so much. I will suggest this to her.
