i was just wondering what anyone knows about the housing and which residence halls are better than others or more social or whatever! anything you can tell me and other newly admitted students would be great :]]
thanks!

This site will tell you absolutely everything you need to know. Descriptions and pros/cons of each dorm from student perspectives. I lived in Warren my freshman year and in an off-campus apartment now. I can answer any questions about Warren or the other dorms.

I really enjoyed my time at Warren. It gives you a wonderful opportunity to meet a ton of people. The atmosphere is very social and upbeat, as is West Campus. The biggest problem with this is you are tempted to have a little TOO much fun. Doors are open all hours of the day and you essentially live in a collective unit with your floor. People are always coming in and out of any given room. This may be a distraction to some when it comes to schoolwork. There is always something fun going on within feet of your workspace. Usually, this is not a problem. It is in the center of campus, so its easy to walk around to any class.

Very funny on the link... care to try again? :D

rofl, yeah, what was the point of that?

HAHA woops. I sent that to a friend as a joke. I went to copy and paste the correct link but I guess it didn't work. I should probably have checked it before I submitted the post. Well hey, enjoy the pic of the cappybarra, but here is the actual link :) (Of all things, it had to be a cappybarra...)

lmao at first ithought you were being really sarcastic. but yeah thanks a lot!

Yeah, my post was just a bit too serious and on-topic for that one to make any sense at all. So yeah, if you have any questions about dorms or anything else about BU, I'm on very often to answer. If its anything personal or anything you don't want a million people reading, feel free to PM me. This goes for everyone by the way.

okay so it's currently between danielsen, myles standish, shelton hall, and warren towers!
i would like a social dorm but i of course understand that a not so social dorm does not mean you don't make any friends! apartment-style or suite-style or whatever does not mean much to me, although it would be nice to have a dorm like that instead of just a regular small dormitory. a roommate is a must! :]
i really like the look of the rooms in myles standish and i feel like control of the heat in each room may be important since i've never experienced a real winter before loll. soo idk, any suggestions?
do you also know the prices of those residence halls or at least where i can find the prices? thanks so much!

Any suggestions for someone anti-social? xD

This may sound weird, but what dorms have the best views of fenway?? is it just the warren towers or are there others? sorry im just a big sox fan who has the green monster painted on the left wall of his room and i think it would be cool to have the real life view of the park out of my window.

Oh my that link is very useful. Thanks!

as a freshman, live in warren, west or towers. I feel that you will lose a large part of the freshman experience without living in one of those places.

You are near fenway if you're any where in east campus. Only the rooms in A tower of warren (I'm not sure if it's the guys or girls side) in the upper floor levels would be able to actually see INTO fenway

I lived in Warren freshman year and loved it. And I agree with the person above who said you end up living as a collective unit with all doors open, because you definitely do, at least on my floor anyways which was also a specialty floor.
I think you'd probably get the same kind of experience on West, but I didn't want to live that far away from classes freshman year. It was nice being able to roll out of bed and be like 2 seconds away from all my classes. So a big factor mmight be which college you're in.

Definitely pick Warren and West over Towers. Towers is just really strange to me. I've only been in a room once and I just remember the beds being awkwardly close to each other. Also the floors are single-sex alternating by each floor so that's another thing to consider.

Danielsen, Myles, and Shelton are nicer than Warren and West, but seriously, just save them for your sophomore year after you've already made a group of friends because they're not the most social.

Also, I highly recommend specialty floors. I'm not sure what your major is or if it's something you'd even be interested in, but it's something to consider. I lived on an engineering floor in Warren freshman year and it couldn't have been a better experience.

does warren have a specialty floor for communications?

Yes. COM has a floor.

I wouldn't recommend living in Myles, Shelton or Danielsen as a freshman. There dorms are tailored for sophmores and up. They don't offer a social experience and really aren't good places for freshman to be. In all likelihood, a freshman won't even be able to get into any of these dorms. Almost all freshman are put into Warren and West regardless of what their top choices are. I would recommend either of these places for the "freshman experience" that they offer. As a freshman, you come as an outsider to the BU community. It is important to form a solid base of friends and contacts from the beginning. Myles and Shelton won't really offer a place to do this. I go to these dorms all the time and doors are always closed, it is pretty quiet, and most people are hidden away. This isn't what a freshman should experience. In Warren and West, doors are almost always open, people are going in and out of every room, and the whole floor functions as a collective unit. You all live, grow, and mature together over the course of freshman year. Therefore, I would say Warren or West for any freshman.

Here's a list of all the specialty residences:
Boston University Housing

Warren has two COM floors in C tower. The 11th floor is co-ed, but I think the 14th floor might be an all girls floor

My brother lives in Shelton, and he's just finishing his freshman year. He said that the place has grown on him, and that he's now pretty bummed that he has to leave in just under two months. (I think he got a bum deal on his room, though. The window looks out on... the next building over. Which is about 4 feet away from the window. It's so depressing.)

That being said, he's never been a terribly social person and I think Shelton made it worse. He doesn't seem to have made a whole lot of friends, but he also really hasn't made an effort to join any clubs, either. Oh well. His decision, not mine.

Personally, I'm asking for Warren Towers next year.

^Yeah Shelton is great for sophomores after you've already made your group of friends. It's a lot nicer than the other primarily underclassmen dorms, but it's not something I'd want to experience freshman year.
