BU meal plans

Heyy im confused about which dining plan to opt for. Please help!
Is the unlimited plan worth it?

You can choose whichever one you want, and if you don’t like it you can switch to a different meal plan within 9 weeks of school.

According to our daughter, hardly anyone has unlimited - it is just too much food unless you are very very hungry. Her first semester, we did the one that had convenience points and a little less than 2 meals a day. When she had established a new group of friends, they compared notes and several switched meal plans to match the others. Second semester, she kept that same plan. Just FYI, we also put about $75 in her account for laundry - that lasted until about November. I would classify her as an “average washer” - not obsessive but not a slob.

Wait the November of which year exactly?

$75 for laundry is obnoxious, are you sure she wasn’t using convenience points to pay for food etc.? I use convenience points for laundry exclusively and I get by on $20 per semester.

AmericanDreams, it doesn’t really matter what you pick now since you can change it later once you figure out your eating habits. Will you be eating at the dining hall 3 times a day? Go for the unlimited. Would you be bothered by weekly quotas on your meals? Pick the 350 or 250. I go to Starbucks and the GSU pretty often so I have the 250 (which gives you the most dining points) and it’s been working out pretty well.

November of her freshman year. So $75 lasted approximately 3 months. She uses the washers and dryers in the West Campus dorms. ( Now that I think about it, that sounds kind of high - maybe we did $50 initially, but it adds up quickly). She started out with everything clean and ready to go (e.g. new towels prewashed, etc) so that was basically maintenance.

The 14 plus plan is a happy medium for me. That’s two meals per day, which I usually spend on lunch and dinner. I often wake up too late for breakfast, have morning classes anyway, or can have breakfast foods in my room if need-be. Breakfast is much easier to do on the fly than lunch or dinner.

Many times, I order out on the weekends, use Dining Points at the GSU, etc a couple of times a week, so that means you can have 3 meals a day sometimes. It seems to work out well for me.

Unlimited does seem excessive to me. Many freshman who begin the semester with the unlimited plan often find themselves only eating twice by the end of the year, especially since the dining halls are all-you-can-eat.

Yeah I’m gonna get unlimited. I eat a lot. Unlike most people, breakfast is a necessity for me. Freshman 150 here I come! :D

Most freshman rent the fridge/micro combinationunit for their room. She eats breakfast in her room most days, and hasn’t gained a pound due to all the walking between campuses and the awesome FitRec. She is doing 250 again next year.
