BU or BC???????

Info on me:
Male, Northeast Ohio, poor (Fafsa EFC was 0 dollars)
white, liberal, atheist, future in business, like being around smart ppl, very mature…umm thats bout it…if anyone has any feedback on why I should go to BU or Bc… feel free to reply…thanks

Well BC is a better school (more respected). I'm using BU as a safety/backup for it. But with the "being around smart ppl" and "very mature" that doesn't really matter. You can find smart people anywhere...unless you go to school in....like...California. (haha).

BU and BC are very different schools. BU is a school in a city without a campus feel. Both schools are big, BC has 9,000 undergrads, so if you want a smart mature crowd of people, you'll find it at either of these schools. BC has a religious affiliation, but the Jesuits are liberal and from my experience and knowlege I only know of two instances where the jesuit aspect comes into play. Firstly BC canceled a gay pride march, understandable, according to Mass. state law religous schools are allowed to descriminate agaisnt gays. BUT, BC did take alot of heat for that action, mainly through its student newspaper. BC also has a quite strict alcahol policy, some schools dont even care that you drink, others care, and BC cares. I spent a night on campus with my friend and there was PLENTY of alcahol, so in that sense it doesnt make a difference. In terms of academics, I'd say BC is stronger. It has a world class buisiness school, and all around great programs.

Now you mention fin aid, I was expecting BC to give me very little financial aid, my EFC is up there. BC gave me around three thousand dollars financial aid. My parents will end up paying around 40,000 a year. Something I expected, BUT I have heard of BC giving alot of money to those who need it.
BC has an AMAZING campus. Old world style gothic buildings with state of the art classrooms. Brand new dorms, they just bought new land and are expanding. Visit both schools, see whats right for you, I dont know too much about BU, i was accepted to BC early action already so I didnt apply. Good luck with your college search.

When I visited both schools I liked BU better. Even though it doesn't have a campus because the city is the campus, I still got a sense of unity. I liked that wherever I went there were always people walking around and I found that they were really nice and friendly. When I got to BC it seemed deserted compared to BU. The atmosphere seemed more tense and less carefree, but that is only my opinion. I know other people that loved BC and hated BU, so you'll just have to visit both schools to make your decision.

However, I do know that BU gives out a lot of money in merit scholarships. If you look on their website under scholarships you'll find ones for 5, 10, and 20 thousand a year I believe. Also I've heard that they have a very good business school.

They are so different, the only thing they have in common is the word "Boston" in their name. BC, think Catholic school kids, lots of white suburban kids, football and sports a big deal, suburban campus. It is not in Boston except in name. In spite of what anyone says, gays have a problem there.
FOr BU think urban, larger, liberal, more diverse (and I don't mean just in terms of URM's, but also non-Catholic Christians and Jews and yes atheists I'm sure); sports no big deal except a few care about hockey, campus is right in the city.

bc is not nearly as "religious" as you all and the general consensus think. its funny that the people that say so dont go there or dont like BC, but being an actual non-catholic non-white student at BC, i can tell you that its quite diverse. boston college isnt in boston, which is great because it has an amazing campus but the city is right there in the background and very accessible if you need it. bc sports is huge here, so school spirit is very high. BU has no school spirit except for hockey, which ill give them a lot of credit for because their hockey spirit might be better than ours. BU has no campus, so if you like being plopped right in the middle of the city in jail-cell dorms, then thats good. BC has relatively newer dorms, and its campus is gorgeous. if youre looking for a great education and mature students that are a lot more diverse than you think, choose BC. however, if the city life is what you want and nothing more, choose BU.

Obviously you prefer BC and are happy there- that's great. I think everyone needs to visit both campuses, maybe do an overnight or attend a class. Each school has different strengths. If you want to major in communications, go to BU. Yes, BU is generous with merit aid. If your stats are good, you can cop a $10K or $15K scholarship. We would not have qualified for financial aid. But our S has a $15K scholarship whch literally knocks off half of the tuition. That's not why he chose BU, though. He visited and the school was the right fit for him. It's all about FIT, people.

Private university is to private university as state school is to Ivy League school ????

I don't think so.

i guess you have to agree that both schools are equally good in their own special way! :)!!

How far is BC out of boston? In transport time i mean ... sometimes you hear that somewhere is only 6miles out of a city but the transport has to go around the world to actually get to the city :)

It is about a 45 minute trolley ride to downtown Boston

Wow thats a long ride. I had previously heard it was about 15-25mins. oh well cries

its not 45 minutes. if you do it properly with a combination of bus and subway, it takes about 20-25. if you take a cab or a car, it takes about 10.

Oh thanks... that is a relief!

Is BC really far right?... I mean ive been around very stongminded conservatives most of my life, and am kinda trying to get away into a more liberal environment, will i b able to do so at BC....or will BU be more fitting?

this entire area, not just BU or BC, is mainly liberal. however, BC has a pretty strong group of college republicans, which im sure youd find at BU as well. if youre liberal youll fit in just fine since youd be in the majority as it is.

Cmon, BC no question!

i think most of BC is on the left, not the right. my brother is a sophmore at BC and loves it. he's openly gay, totally liberal and has an awsome group of friends. no one in my family is religious either. i think the only the only think that sucks is that the administration cancelled a gay dance last semester. but most of the students protested and the school newpaper slammed the admin so i think they are planning to put it on this semester.

BU isnt really any more liberal than BC. i think its more apolitical than anything else. but i don't know as much about it except that i'll be using it as a safety :)

What about campuses...like which one gives off better vibes...i know that's subjective...but since i live in northeast ohio, and have a very low income, single parent, etc ...i havent had opportunity to visit...im hoping i can if i get into both....but what are some of your feelings about the campus???

BU has no campus, its plopped in the city. BC has a really nice open campus with boston right in the background.
