can you please share your stats like awards , internships or EC?
yeah sure!
act: 36
psat: 1490
ECs: i have multiple ECs from a wide range of fields but i focused on my research-related ECs in my application. i have a pretty strong research background, i’ve been involved in various research projects/programs since freshman year, have independently/collaboratively written multiple research papers, and i’m currently a research intern at a lab at a T10 med school working on a project related to the field I applied for at RISE.
however, i do want to note that in my opinion, the essays are by far the most important aspect of your application. in one of my essays, i drew on a personal experience that had deeply affected me and explained how going through that is what led me to pursue research. allowing the readers to understand the broader context surrounding your interests in research as well as providing specific reasons why you’re interested in the fields you chose to apply for is, in my opinion, of utmost importance.
hope this helps!
Thank you so much for ur reply! I had perfect PSAT and 1570 SAT, attended BWSI Summer program , had two research internships(past two years machine learning related) - One was at MIT. I was wondering whether stating previous research internships did not help me. But reading ur profile, thats not the case. My essays were above average. Congrats anyway and Enjoy your summer and good luck!
I got into the matching phase for electrical engineering - so excited and hoping for a prof lol congrats to everyone who advanced!
Advanced to matching phase, mathematics. Congrats to all those who advanced, hopefully a professor likes my app enough
Have any Practicum candidates heard back yet?
Nope, I haven’t yet and I applied to Practicum as my first choice.
Same as above.
Can you share your stats with us?
Of course.
4.0 UW/4.3 W GPA
1550/34/1450 (Didn’t submit PSAT)
ECs: I actually don’t have any previous research experience, but I wrote a lot about my genuine interest for math in my essay. Wrote about different experiences, how it inspired my love for math, and what I want to achieve with math by research.
As someone said above, I think the most important part of the application was my essay, especially the first one. I really incorporated a variety of examples when I was asked to explain my interest in math, and ultimately I think the ones who advance are the ones who show actual interest in their respective subjects. After all, the point of the program is to help juniors who want to go beyond what they’ve learned until now, and to do so, we need actual interest.
Hope this somewhat helped
I also applied for math (and physics). Who did you select as your first choice for mentor?
Thank you for much for sharing!
Weren’t you asked to just put top3?
I don’t remember exactly but I put one from Finance and Neuroactivity I think.
They’re really running it down to the wire huh…
I just got email for practicum track . Accepted . Got email at 2 PM today - just saw it now .
for internship, does anyone know how many people who get into matching eventually get accepted?
Waitlisted for Practicum. Does anyone have any insights into likelihood of getting selected from the waitlist or timing? Scoured the previous year threads but could not glean much.
Congrats! Did they give you a timeline to accept by?
Same here. Not sure what the waitlist even means - I’m guessing they probably just waitlist all rejects. Timing-wise - I believe mid-late April we can see a response. Not holding my hopes out though, the email was worded like a rejection.
Thanks for the response.
The email talked about “ There is a strong possibility that space will become available in that track over the coming weeks. ” - which sounded positive….but not really sure.
