BU RISE 2022 - Applicants Thread

Yes 2 weeks

Thank you. Helpful to know.

Does anyone know when Simmons/ Michigan are supposed to come back? Those will be my higher choices because of $ with Rise.

Where’d you get this number from?

2 weeks was in their email

which one is more selective, Practicum or intern?

Internship for sure.

Any updates on internship?

pretty sure those who applied to internship should have received a decision by now, either they got rejected or are moving on to the matching phase, though they have not moved beyond the matching phase yet

does anyone know the chances of moving on from the matching phase, just curious?

Yeah I was asking more about when we get matched; something I read last year was that matching is never a guarantee of an internship, though BU Rise never informs us of the number of matching phase applicants so we’ll never know the actual number.

In 2019 the matching phase email came out the 13th of March, and the first acceptances around the 28th. So perhaps people could start hearing back this weekend.

Also apparently someone got accepted to an internship last Saturday: they seemed like they knew the program pretty well but they’ve deleted their post so I’m not sure how credible it may be.

really? I know 2 people who moved on to matching and neither have heard anything, though maybe they just do it as professors accept them.

Yeah I haven’t heard anything either, guess we’ll all have to wait

I want to get this group opinion in terms of ranking of the following programs

  • SSP
  • BU RISE
  • Michigan HSPSP
  • Garcia Scholars

This is the way I thought of the ranking - what are your views?

There may be slight differences on the ranking, but the truth is most of these programs are pretty much about the same. What’s more important is what you get out of these programs. Choose the right one for you: all of them have their strengths and weaknesses.

quite honestly, i think ssp is a tad bit higher in terms of prestige but the other 3 are still great programs, it honestly depends but pick the one that you think is good for you

If this is helpful for anyone - accepted to matching phase for electrical engineering as an asian guy.

4.0UW/4.4W
1550 SAT

Wrote mostly about my piezoelectricity research, an Arduino outreach program I started, a climate related coding internship at a t30, and just liking circuits and electronics in general.

Idk if it ended up helping but I was pretty specific with my 3 professors prompt. Like they were all topics I’ve had prior exposure to and I talked about exactly what real-world application I wanted to work on with it (all climate/energy related) and expressed some intellectual interest in the pure scientific concepts behind them too.

Idk about matching yet but for anyone applying in the future this app is so arbitrary and essay based so just make sure what you write about shows merit and initiative and is compelling. Hope this helps

has anyone gotten matched yet? I moved onto the matching phase for biology but haven’t heard anything since.

It should come out starting mid-April. Nothing for me either

Will there be an interview at matching stage? Anyone got interviewed yet?

Has anyone gotten accepted from the matching phase yet? I was accepted into the matching phase, but haven’t heard back on getting placed with a mentor.
