BU Transfer Fall 2014

@khristina no worries, I’m from so cal, we can kick it over there.
@babaholiang Do you have a gpa for hs? at 16 completed they will want to weigh in your high school gpa as well. That’s a large courseload for straight A’s for sure though (on the 18 in progress) so that’s a +.

Accepted to CAS!!

accepted to COM!

@Nostalgia14‌ HS GPA like a 3.8 ish, but my igcse is 3.3 average. What do u think of Boston University and Boston college in accepting me?

@LiangliangGui‌ I don’t know if that’s good or bad, but I do know that my highschool’s proof of graduation was attached along with the final transcript from HS. I’d just call and clarify.

@AndrewL3 Thanks. I received an email today and it says I have the BU ID now.

But the BU ID is U+8 digits, the school website says it has 9 digits…

Just got accepted to the College of Communication!!!

Congrats! Did you guys get decent financial aid packages? I appealed mine and I should get a response back today or tomorrow. I’m nervous–they need to approve my appeal or else I can’t go :(

Do you guys know how long does it take from our notification of admission to when we receive a financial aid package?

It took a week for me to get my financial aid package @olo59u‌ and I also appealed @adoddproductions, if I don’t receive more aid then BU is just not an option for me - too expensive

@klgood can you tell us what you had expected BU to give based on your EFC and what they actually did give you?

@olo59u, did you check under the decisions tab? I kept looking under Financial Aid status and didn’t realize that they had already posted my FA award under “Decisions.”

Also, @klgood, if you don’t mind my asking, did they gap you a significant amount? They offered me 30k in grants, and then another 10k in loans, but it says the cost of attendance is 60k with tuition alone being 45k. That means that without grants I have a 15k gap in tuition, with grants still a 5k gap in tuition, and then, if I include total cost of attendance, a 23k gap total (and that’s WITH loans).

Is this normal? Is this considered generous for BU? I’m just not sure what to think of it. Sorry if I made anyone uncomfortable with the FA aid talk. Btw, my EFC was zero.

@PaintTheSilence‌, are you considering taking out more loans to cover up the difference, or you expect financial assistance from your parents?

@cctransfer212 It looks like the only way to pay it would be to take out loans - they didn’t even offer work-study. However, I’ve been accepted to Cornell, and I’m still waiting to hear about FA from them, so the point could be moot. There are also several other schools I’m waiting to hear back from, so hopefully I will be making the decision from a better position at that point.

Yeah @PaintTheSilence‌, i would suggest that you appeal to bu about your low fin aid. give them a good reason as well. Tell them about you not getting a work study and all. probably they will give you more.

@adoddProductions I have the same question you asked before, does receive the U ID means get the admission? Do you have the answer now? Thanks.

@PaintTheSilence‌ I had a HUGE gap. I only got 1k in grants (yes, 1…) and $12k in loans. So that left me with $35k+ to pay out of pocket. Both of my parents are in prison (to be candid) and I receive no financial help at all. I was appalled honestly. I called and they said the just “don’t have enough funds to provide everyone with aid.” I appealed and I am waiting on a response. I was expecting to receive enough aid (grants/loans) to at least cover all of my tuition… and it was far from that. @khristina‌. Northeastern gave me a full ride so unless BU comes up with some miracle work on my financial aid offer, I will be attending NEU.

So, I got my financial aid award but it’s not enough. I didnt receive a Pell Grant from them but I’ve received it from every other school I applied to and FAFSA said I qualified for it, so I don’t know how that does not transfer over to BU’s financial aid package.

It’s ridiculous. I’m supposed to get my appeal response back tomorrow and I will let you guys know how it goes. What makes me pissed is that last year I received a $42.5 k financial aid package and this year I receive a $30.5k package. That is a HUGE difference! BU, however, is giving out a TON to freshmen this year and they are being so unfair to transfers. I was accepted as a freshman to BU last fall, couldn’t go because of family/personal issues and as a transfer they treat my financial aid horribly just because I’m a transfer
