I know it doesn't have ac and all so I was considering buying a portable ac unit. But how is the buckman triple? If it's bad then I was considering a double. And what is the layout of a thomas quad??

Here are the rental rates (per semester) for every room type for every dorm at UF:

I can’t say much about Buckman (never been inside), but it it probably has the best location of any UF dorm.

I have a friend who has a quad room at Thomas, which I’ve only been to 3 times. The dorm as a whole is very old, and pretty warm in the hallways. In the room, there are 4 beds, dessers, wardrobes, & desks. The room is very wide, but all these things take up a lot of floorspace. You can bunk the beds together to make more room if necessary. I would recommend that at least one person get an AC unit, and everyone get a fan. My friend & his roommates do this, and the air is no worse than my own dorm in Springs.

As a side note, there is a central AC installation in Thomas & Buckman that should be finished by Fall 2015.

Thanks.
Now I just wanted to know if those AC units are expensive or any good. I looked online and see mixed reviews for them.

Not very expensive and they work really well. Make sure you do your research and purchase one that complies with the various restrictions.
