Can anyone tell me if Thomas and Buckman hall really have no air? I heard from a friend that they do, but if anyone can help clear this up, that'd be great!!

You have to use a [portable AC unit](http://housing.ufl.edu/downloads/acunit.pdf).

which, depending on the size of your room and how good the unit is, might do nothing for you.

As long as you have a good a/c unit you will be fine. I have lived in Thomas for 2 years and with the right a/c unit my room was colder than my friends room who have central air conditioning. The rooms come with a ceiling fan, but having a unit will be best.

ibgirl09: What unit do you have? Might be helpful for those considering the non-a/c dorms. Also, do you have any idea how well the units work that are available from UF? Any that seem to be the most popular among students?

ibgirl09: My daughter got into Thomas and I was wondering about what type of AC unit would be better. Is it better getting a unit or should we rent from UF? Are the UF units cold enough?

I just selected a room in Thomas. Is there anywhere I can go to get information on renting an A/C unit? I vaguely remember the guy that did my campus tour last year mentioning that you could rent them from UF.

A casual google search did not get me anything other than the .pdf linked to above with the basic info on what’s allowed.

BUMP

I finally managed to get in contact with someone in the Murphree Area office. UF does not rent A/C units for students living in Thomas or Buckman, you do have to buy your own.
