I've always wanted to be an engineer. I'm great at building things, creating new designs, and understanding new concepts. I'm a junior in high school and my GPA is a 4.53 weighted, 4.0 unweighted, and I will be taking calculus AP and chemistry AP next year. I have plenty of ECs, including multiple science and math related clubs where I have won competitions (MESA, Science Olympiad, etc.) However, my SAT scores are kind of lacking for an engineering major. I got a 2000 (580 Math, 710 Reading, 710 Writing). Normally I excel in math, but I often take a while to work through problems, and I tend to over think things. Combine that with anxiety and depression, and the SAT math section is a really bad time for me. How badly do you think this math score would affect my chances of being admitted to chemical engineering at a school like Bucknell? If I were to choose environmental engineering instead, do you think they would be more forgiving of my math score?

Even though your composite score is doable in the case of Bucknell, I’d suggest you to retake the SAT, if possible. Since SAT Math covers concepts that are taught mostly in middle school, something less than 600s shows there’s a gap. You’re going for Engineering major, so you need to show the adcom that you’re good at math.

If you swap your Math with CR, it looks good for Bucknell :P

SAT I math has a very harsh curve; there’s virtually no room for errors. You can try Math Level 2; it sometimes offset a bad score in SAT I.
