Anyone's schools going through budget cuts? Probably only applies to California schools.

My district cut 3 days (no pay for employees) from the rest of this year alone. Classes are packed. Teachers and staff jobs on the line. I think we have to cut $11 mil from our budget.

NY went through this whole budget crisis as well this last year and may continue to deal with it. They’ve shut down around 10-15 schools in efforts to “raise graduation rates”.

Our property taxes are keeping us going this year, but I don’t know what’s going to happen in the next few years. Hopefully they get rid of the horrible teachers.

“Chesterfield County school employees, surveyed about where $40 million to $50 million in budget cuts should be made, now are fighting one another to save their jobs, school officials say.”

my school that i go to now is having to make tons of cuts. we dont have like any clubs anymore and there isnt enough chairs in one of my classes for all of the students. it stinks

They cancelled my English class so my whole schedule got flipped around because of the cuts. It wasn’t fun to change it, but the new teacher is a lot better than the old one. I’ve learned a lot more than I had with the other teacher. I also heard they cut an AP World History class, and several math classes.

Besides classes, they have stopped supplying unlimited tissues. The school only gives out 1 per class per semester, and they only refill the toilet paper once per week as necessary.

There was also a huge work slowdown which made it really hard for me to raise my grade since there was a huge backup of work. The teachers have gotten past it, but it was annoying. Clubs were cancelled left and right.

They also don’t light the rooms as much among other things. They cut out the really little and big things.

My school is going through a major financial crisis because my state is idiotic and capped property taxes… We had to cut a bunch of teachers last year but luckily fundraisers helped bring them back. We won’t get as lucky this year, though. It’s really depressing. :(

Agreed with the private school comment. Hooray for rich private schools. =P (except we still have some…“financial cutbacks” or whatever you want to call them other than actually saying “budget cuts.” Oh, school…)

But really, the public schools have every Friday cut out for the rest of the year on all weeks that were originally five days long. The older students are happy about that though. Not so much the parents of the younger kids.

Well, my school was already dirt poor, so…yeah.

As for taxes, in addition to the impending state and federal tax raises, my county is about to raise taxes between $0.14 and $.24 so they can pay for the new $20 million high school they needed to build thirty years ago, but couldn’t because ‘the economy was too bad.’
