Does your school district have any budget cuts for next year?

Our school district is planning on cutting 55 million dollars out of our education budget. It's horrible because they're cutting like 300 teachers (we're losing 11 teachers at my HS). Also they're thinking about cutting the music program (not completely, but stuff like competitive marching band, etc..). They're cutting the elementary librarians, and bus transportation to anywhere out of state.

Oh and currently we have 4 different periods every day (we switch every day), but they're cutting it so that we have to go to 7 periods a day for 50 minutes each period. Classes are getting bigger as well.
I live in Oregon.

What about you guys?

I live in L.A and we have some budget cuts, some counselors got fired, they cut library hours a bit, the biggest one though is no summer sessions which includes some community colleges as well. They are also cutting the school’s water polo team for one year.

I go to a private school, but yes, our public district is supposed to have about 150 teachers, counselors, librarians laid off. I’m not sure yet about which programs will be affected as that news has not yet been released.

Our local state universities are suffering big time for next year as well. Huge budget cuts.

Our school “wanted to keep the classroom the same” but there will be things like:

-$100 per sport for middle school, $150 per sport for high school
-Suprisingly, only 19 teachers cut from the district total (we have like 600+, ~12000 student district)
-Grades 7-12 bussing is cut to only 1 stop per neighborhood
-Unfortunately, less service like extended after school care (younger grades), probably less tutoring, etc…
-More small things.

I don’t like cuts, they are scary.

CALIFORNIA, WHY?! Ugh, since last year, 50 teachers have been given a not cute pink slip at my school. New counselors, new admin, new system. There is absolutely NO summer school, not even for the dumb dumbs who failed (That’s how you know we broke like a j0k3.) Sports are basically going to be PAY2PLAY… --__–. Teams at my school have to clean the gym to get money, lol. Wow. We’re looking at 40+ students in ONE class room, more teachers are getting cut, especially the teachers who only have one or two years in teaching experience.

We too used to have block schedule, 3 classes a day, 2hrs each, now it’s all 6 classes 55 minutes each. GOOD BYE ART! And other fun electives for people like cooking class. Let’s not even talk about how community colleges unit prices are going up too. AND LET’S NOT EVEN GET STARTED ABOUT THE UC’S TUITION. WOMP!

I’m in California. IT SUCKS. ****ing pink slips. And seniority for senior teachers is really awful. There are so many problems.

There’s no coach for cheerleading and they pay like $800 each to do it. The library’s hours have been cut severely, and we are not allowed to be inside our school after 5 pm unless there is a faculty supervisor. Class sizes keep increasing–my health class was 45 students. My mom went to my HS and recently visited. Her comments: Wow this is just like it looked when I was a student! … only, it’s like 30 years later. With the same equipment/lockers/furniture etc.

LAUSD. 'Nuff said.

I personally don’t go to a public school because I’m fortunate enough to have a family who can (barely) afford a private school education, but my friends tell me all about it.
