Can anyone suggest some affordable hotels nearby that are not flea bags??? Last time we used hotwire - we ended up in downtown Wilmington, hotel was fine, but parking was $36 per day - didn't save a dime in the end! We do not need to be right there, but within 20 minute drive would be fine. Thanks for ideas or locations.

Did you check out the hotel/motel listing on UD’s website? There are about 25 listings. The Super 8 Motel on East Main Street is one step above flea bag but it is relatively economic and on fringe of campus. You can easily walk to all UD buildings from it. We also stayed at Howard Johnsons on South College Ave. (right off 95) and it was OK.

For admitted students day we stayed at the Courtyard by Mariott listed on the UD suggested lodging list. The hotel was by the Christiana Mall. It was a 10 minute ride to the campus and was alittle over $150 for the night. It was not a bad ride in the morning and the hotel was clean.

I booked the Holiday Inn by the Christiana Mall for both NSO and move in. Has anyone stayed there? It looks decent for the price and distance but I’m just curious to see if anyone felt otherwise about it.

Many of us have had great success with Priceline. You can always book somewhere that has a day of arrival cancellation policy and use Priceline to find a good deal. Priceline is always changing it’s areas and star levels so you want to be aware of the geography. Your best bet is to learn the tricks on biddingfortravel.com and take a shot!
We got to be regulars at the Christiana Hilton and Courtyard. Never stayed at the HIE but the area is convenient. You can go the back way and avoid 95. There is a Hampton Inn and a LaQuinta in Elkton which is closer than New Castle. Feel free to PM me.

Lefty - we stayed in the HIE by Christiana Mall last year for NSO. It was very clean, and fairly new (or updated). The breakfast buffet was good, and the commute was convenient. We actually tried to book it again for Family weekend, but it was full.

Thank you Tray, I figured it would be ok but just wanted to be sure. I stayed at a bunch of holiday inns doing the college tours around the country and most were very updated and nice. I will have my husband along as well and he is a bit more picky than me but as long as it’s fairly updated and clean he’ll be fine. I have the HI booked for move in but I have Embassy suites for family weekend. A bit more than I wanted to pay but the location is good.

We stayed at the Red Roof Inn in Christiana - the location was good it was right near the Christiana Mall, restaurants and was right off of I-95. It took no more than 15 mins to get to campus. Their prices range from $66 a night to in the $80’s per night. We plan on staying there next time - here is the link : [Red Roof Inn Wilmington DE | Newark, DE Hotel Reservations | Red Roof Inn](http://www.redroof.com/reservations/property-detail.aspx?pid=00190)

There’s a HoJo on South College Avenue I stayed at once, (1119 S College Ave) substantially cheaper than the Marriott, the two Hilton Embassy Suite/Homewood Suite twins on South College which are only a mile or two closer, but still close enough to be only a few minutes from campus.

There is also a Sleep Inn next to the Homewood Suites. Basic but less expensive and close. The La Quinta in Elkton used to be a Hawthorn Suites so the rooms are a little bigger and have kitchenettes. There is a Waffle House nearby
Make a reservation at a cheapie, but give Priceline a try, you’ll usually be able to get a nicer hotel for the cheapie price.
Although it’s early, remember to make your reservations for graduation the summer before. Most of the local hotels start accepting reservation in June or July.
