burnin' Q about SAT II's

My dilemma: My relatively selective dream school "highly recommends" that an applicant take 3 standardized tests (like AP, SAT II's, etc.) other than the SAT I, in order to "demonstrate ability." They recommend that an applicant take one math-related test, and two others in "areas of strength." I'll be taking the AP English Language exam come May. I'm unsure about which other tests to take-and just so you know, I'm dreadful when it comes to math. My math SAT score was horrid. My school only has a few AP classes (Spanish-which is too late for me to take, English-which I'm already in, and Calc-I'll be in that class next year, I'm in Trig/PreCal right now).

Since my school has such limited offerings for "advanced" classes, should I bother taking any SAT II's at all, in order to fulfill this college's "recommendation?" Especially since I highly doubt any of my "other" classes (Chemistry, U.S. History, etc.) would prepare me for any questions that might be on the corresponding SAT II exam...

How about SAT II Literature? If you're more of a humanities person that could suit you...

I was going to suggest the same thing. We don't offer AP Eng (or Honours until senior year), so after I signed up for the SAT II and I began studying I was shocked to find out how difficult it is. I would recommend Lit for you because advanced prep really is going to help. In fact, you can take it 10 June, which is probably right around the end of your school year when you are best prepared. I'm with you in taking a lot of exams: I'm a junior and my schedule starting at the beginning of March is: National Latin Exam two days before my SAT I, a two-weekend break and then leaving for three college interviews (all of which are over halfway across the country), then my SAT II in US History in May, six days before my AP exam, and then the SAT II in Lit on 10 June. Gotta love junior year!

When a college recommends something, it is "good manners" to do it. :) It means they value the SAT II and will surely wonder why you didn't take it.

FYI tito_08:

Highly recommends means: "if you are not a star athlete, do it and do well on it"

hah. now that's reassuring....
