This is just a post regarding OU Bursar Services. They do not seem to completely “have their act together.” The letter stated that a payment of $1,000 of tuition was due at the time of her New Sooner Enrollment appointment, and would be considered late if not paid by Aug. 1. My DD is an NMF and this concerned me because all tuition is to be waived. I called and the person there said the letter should have talked about “tuition and fees,” and said the $1,000 was still due. I asked to speak with her boss–who agreed with me. The Associate Director said to just fill out a “Financial Success Plan” mentioning your NMF status, at https://lfforms.ou.edu/forms/financial-plan
I did that, but they take awhile. My DD’s Current Bursar Balance remains $1,000.00, until the Financial Aid Department wipes it out.
Sounds like the coordination with the National Scholars office is missing as this is something new. I looked back at everything we paid in the last year and we didn’t pay anything until August. And I’m sure we did not have to fill out some kind of plan.
And don’t be surprised if the $2570/year Oklahoma Academic Scholars award does not cover all fees. Some of the $1250 National Merit stipend will most likely be needed to cover that but that comes doesn’t get posted until the check comes from NMSC. It was posted Sept. 17th last fall. It’ll be okay because the first payment (other than this new $1000) wasn’t due until the 20th or 21st of the first full month of classes (ie September). Actually the $2750 wasn’t posted until Sept 11. Something about OU isn’t allowed to disburse that money until the end of the 3rd week of classes.
We also got the letter to pay $1k. I also called but was told to pay and later they will adjust this amount towards any other fees which is not covered by NMS. Fees like car parking or printer/copier usage etc.If there is not enough fees for that much, they will return a check for the balance amount, it seems. Agree, it is unwanted complicated proess, when already they got the confirmation when we paid the $450 as enrollment fees. I thought of waiting till July 1st and see if any change once they get any notification from the National Scholars office.
Just realized I wasn’t consistent with the numbers. Each of the parts will get disbursed by semester as 1/2 of the yearly amount. The $2750 per semester from Oklahoma Academic Scholars will get posted directly to the Bursar account. The NMSC check ($625 for the college-sponsored award) came to the National Scholars office each semester and then DS picked it up from there and took it over to the Bursar’s office to apply to his account.
I’m surprised to hear this. My D is finishing her second year as a NMS at OU and we have had no problems with the Bursar’s office. I suggest you call the NMS office at OU for help. They told us if we ever had problems or concerns to feel free to contact them for assistance.
We got that letter a few weeks ago, d called and was told to report NM in her “financial plan” It must have worked because I just asked her to check her bursar’s account and it reads $0 now.
@3scoutsmom Thank you for the good news. Would you please provide some details on “financial plan” in terms where and how to do it? I was trying and checking various options in the bursar account and could not figure where to indicate the NM status.
@ohmmom Thanks and good to know your positive experience. As suggested, will call NMS office this week.
Oops. just realized @RayznHELL has given the link to file “financial plan” form. Thanks.
