Bursley and BUSING IT TO Central campus for everything?

So.....you need to take the bus to go

to the libraries,(UGLi and GRAD)
the Union for the general meetings for rush, & other campus group mtgs
for ANY bars(?),
for restaurants, ( like Cottage Inn....not Panda Express)
bookstores, ( realizing there's a B&N one in Pierpont with limited hours)
computer fixes, -- or do they have that service at Pierpont too & not
the just Union....assuming u buy your computer there)

any non-college retail stores, like Urban Outfitters
any theaters
haircut/salon type places
......

please tell me i'm wrong, but I have looked at other posts for North campus and I'm asking if..actually...what.. do people do besides going to the Dude or Pierpont or NCRB? Please be kind! I'm just asking...don't mean to offend anyone who loves North campus!

SORRY!!!! Double post!

The bus ride from Bursley to Central Campus is just 10 minutes. It's not as if you're living in a different town.

And what do people do on North Campus? Well, people at Bursley live like they do at any other dorm on campus. If they need to go to Central, they get the bus which runs every 5-10 minutes.

Seriously, dude, it is NOT as inconvenient as you think. :)

K. thanks for your reply!

I'll give you a run down on North Campus. Keep in mind, I didn't have to live up there, but was up there daily as an engineer. The run down:

Full cafeteria in Bursley and a smaller cafe called the Blue Apple. Bursley is one of the nicest cafeterias on campus. The Blue Apple is also pretty cool - I think they're revamping the meal plans but you should be able to eat at either with a fairly flexible plan.

Pierpont Commons. As of last year, has Quiznos, some coffee shop, Panda Express & Panda Sushi, Ugo's (convince store/some warm food (pizza, Big Ten Burrito burritos/quesadillas)), and some other cafeteria place on the second floor that I never went to. You've also got a bookstore there, and I believe a computer store/tech support place opening this year. Also has a pretty nice computer/tv lounge and pool tables to rent. Overall its a solid place.

The Dude - an engineering library connected to Pierpont. Has plenty of computers everywhere, as well as study space. If you're not an engineer, maybe not the best place to find a book (do people still use those?) but its typically very quiet. Also has a small cafe type coffee shack.

The NCRB - North Campus Rec Building - a gym. Never been to it, but some people swear by it. I'm sure you can find more info with Google.

That's pretty much it. No restaurants, bars, shops, theaters, etc. That being said, the buses are normally pretty good, and run from Bursley and Pierpont down to Central Campus fairly often, and generally decently late.

If you're not an engineer, expect to be taking the bus to Central to meet with group members, go to class, go to party, go to football games, etc. I guess its pretty annoying, but its a shared, common experience that you'll be able to gripe about with your friends later ("Remember having to take that 2 am bus back that one time...")

Edit: Just a quick edit here, but its perfectly possible to only spend the hours you sleep on North Campus (well, maybe the hours you get up and change too). Once you're down on Central, you can find places to study, eat, go to the gym, whatever down there. You'll work out a schedule to minimize bus time, I'm sure.

The food at bursley is better than most at hill and central.

Razzmatazz, you're right, but that's the weekday schedule :P

Thanks so much, Razzmatazz! Thanks for taking the time to reply. Your information was exactly what I was looking for.

oh, and also take note, right now it's "only 10 minutes," but once you start living with it, it's "omg another 10 minutes." :)
