Business Admin. w/option in Acct. vs. B.S. Accounting

I have seen universities that offer a B.S. in Business Administration with options in accounting, finance, etc. and universities that offer a B.S. in accounting or finance. What is the difference between the two? Is one better than the other?

And what are the top colleges in California for undergraduate accounting? Besides UC Davis and UCSB none of the UC schools seem to have accounting majors.

I wouldn’t say one is better than the other. I think they are relatively the same. The only difference I can tell is that the B.S in Business Admin would have a few more business related course while a B.S in accounting is more strictly towards accounting courses itself.

There are very few UCs that offers accounting as a major. If any do offer it, it will most likely be a business admin/econ with a concentration or a minor degree. The reason is because a UC is a research university which focuses more on preparing undergrads for further studying. So a CSU would be more suited to emphasize the degree.

Some well known CSU for accounting are : CPSLO, SDSU, CSULB, SJSU, and CSUF.
