Recently, I've thought about transfering out to USC's marshall school and continuing my efforts for a Business Admin degree. My coach, who was an accounting major told me that accounting majors are quite similar to business admin majors, and on top of that accounting majors take class above business admin class that will make it easier to make an MBA (if i wanted to). What im basically saying is that if I was an accounting major, I would have already been introduced to material in my way to getting an MBA (so he says). Now my question is what is the difference between the two majors, and if you had a choice which would you pick? and if accounting majors offer management classes like business admin.

Accounting majors are usually required to take management classes. The degree is usually called a Bachelors in Business Administration in Accounting, btw.

I would choose accounting for sure, because it seems like a more useful degree, whereas a general management degree seems like you (didn’t know what you wanted to do/couldn’t do math/are aiming to be a district manager.)

Also, if you meet all the requirements, you can sit for the CPA exam as an accounting major, and there’s a reason so many CEOs are CPAs. You’ll also have opportunities in accounting that will teach you much more about management than any class you will take in college.

I was just wondering though, im applying to USC’s Marshall school for fall 10 and I was wondering if it had a business Admin concentration in accounting too? (if that was what you meant)

Just FYI, if you’re not sure which one you want to do, it’s fairly simple to switch from Business Admin to Accounting at USC. Once you’ve completed BUAD250a and BUAD250b (generally the latest by the end of sophomore year), you need a “B” average of those 2 classes (neither lower than a B-) and then I believe you just need to fill out a form and you’re in.
