Do any of you know any business internship programs for high school students? I'm a senior right now and I live in Los Angeles. I know that there's Inroads and I would apply for the program except I think that they would shun me because I'm Asian. Any ideas? Thanks!

Asian Americans are definitely not shunned in INROADS. I would guess that 25% of INROADS interns are Asian in So Cal. You should definitely apply.

what are you interested in?

Why don't you wait 'til college next year. most college kids begin to intern after they finish their freshman year in college. I'm sure your college will provide you with tons of networking opportunities and internships.

Sonic One,

Are you sure INROADS accepts Asian Americans?

Their website states:

"INROADS seeks high performing Black, Hispanic/Latino, and Native American Indian students for internship opportunities with some of the nation's largest companies. Our rigorous career development training process will challenge you to commit to excellence and raise the bar on your personal expectations."

well..considering how I'm asian...and I was a 4 year INROADS intern...I think so ;).

YES, Inroads does accept Asians. For example, Sonic One and I. august's_chopin, I would encourage you to apply.

Oh. That sounds great then ... except

I am still a junior and if I want to do the internship, I want to do it this summer. Can I still join?

Under qualifications... the INROADS website states:

"H.S. senior applying or already admitted to an accredited college or university"

Do they bend the rules for someone who is exceptional at school? I have a 2120 on my SAT and top 1% in a class of about 900

hmm...to be honest, most likely you wont be admitted into Inroads until you're a senior. as a junior, it would be very difficult. why not enjoy the summer and take a break?

Well, it is really my last chance to get job/work experience before heading off for college. My senior year summer will be spent entirely in Beijing volunteering for the 2008 Olympics :)!

ooo why didnt u say so. honestly speaking, locate the nearest office to you on the INROADS website and contact them. your best answer is to speak to them directly.

ok thanks so much Fireballkid! I'll give my best shot! :)

how competitive is it to get an internship through INROAD? I'm a HS senior, looking for something to do during the summer.

i wouldn't say its terribly competitive. just make sure your resume stands out because your up against a plethora of other kids; also polish up on your interview skills--i had some kids in my group who were just atrocious.
