I'm undecided betweeen the business schools at Virginia Tech, Clemson and UConn. I know that the VT business school is on the US News and World Report list of top undergrad business programs. Does this list really matter that much, and how are the repuations of the Clemson and UConn business schools?

Any input, or link with good information would be great. Thanks

Something to keep in mind is Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western (Ontario, Canada)... It has an undergrad business program which is world renowned and draws many top students from around the world... compared to US schools, it is very cheap, considering the exchange rate and that it is heavily funded by the Government...

UConn has a very well respected accounting program. All of the big firms recruit on campus.

My wife is a CPA graduate of UConn (years ago) and my neighbor's son just graduated from UConn in accounting and is now working for Deloitte after doing an internship UConn helped him get between his junior and senior year.

They just open a new business school building within the past couple of years.

can anyone compare accounting at VT vs. UConn, I've been to both schools and know about the facilities and everything, I'm just wondering about professors/recruiting. Thanks

I'd suggest you think a bit about where you would like to live and work after college. UConn is probably going to be more familiar to employers in the northeast, VT to employers in the middle atlantic, and Clemson to employers in the south. You can probably email the career placement office at each school and ask for a list of employers who have recruited on campus in the past few years as well.

i'm an expert on virginian colleges from UVA to tech to madison to mason to longwood. I can tell you business graduates from Virginia Tech aren't regarded very highly, as James Madison business graduates do much much better. Both are about the same easy to get into.

Virginia tech is great for engineering though. Both JMU and VT are fallbacks from our school for kids who get rejected to UVA or William and Mary. Business = James Madison. Tech = engineering. I don't care what the ranks say but Vtech is 72 on usnews and not even on the list on businessweek. Anyways, Vtech business majors suck, either go to JMU here or UVA or something or don't bother as you'll spend your days working chump change.

Would it be better for job prospects to go to a school with a "better" reputation (from what I'm hearing on these boards UConn) or to a school where I would be able to keep my GPA really high and be ranked near the top of the class? Thanks

so if this is true, what rankings do companies use to rank the top 30, becuase someone is trying to tell me that UConn has a more reputable program but VT is the one ranked by US News, so I'm confused on what these rankings are based on

Richmond is more prestigious than vt and jmu. However, the business school is on par with JMU's. Richmond is kinda looked at as the "rich kid's" school. Its like a different tangent for the kids who can afford it that want to apply to a "good" school besides UVA and William and Mary. People don't think of Richmond as a business school though, but it's reputation is still good(almost on par with william + mary).
