Haha i was about to post a similar thread.

Actually my friend and I are planning on starting a buisness. We are just gathering ideas right now, so not sure on exactly what we're gonna do.

I dont wanna give the best ideas away, so ill give the more common ones. These include:
- Making websites locally (designers, flower stores, grocery stores, random stuff)
- Services (ppl call us, we do what they want - they pay. So like doing groceries for them, getting food, dropping something off, checking something for them. ANYTHING.)
- Making computers (make comp, sell at 1.5x the price)
Some of the other ones are to godly to disclose lol.

I've done web programming/design services, lawn work, etc.

Cono if you dont mind,

How did you start web design? Was it just you, or a bunch of friends? How many websites did you do (about), and would you recommend it?

I started web design first by having a sincere interest in it; so it rarely got boring to me.

I read a bunch of online tutorials to first learn HTML, got some books, and then added CSS to my list. I learn XHTML afterwards (small extension, just some standards and stuff) and got into PHP/MySQL database applications (which isn't as hard as it sounds).

But the PHP/MySQL isn't necessary unless you want to create things like forums (like CC), login pages, basically database apps.

I started by joining a bunch of web design/programming communities on the net (message boards, like CC). I learned at those communities, eventually got some requests to do some work, got paid over PayPal. Then I started joining forums specifically made for paid web design work and just started doing sites there as well.

It's not a bad idea to put ads in the paper either. Word of mouth is also a good system; just mentioning it to friends. I did a quick 20 minute job for a friend's dad and made like $30 the other day. Everyone thinks it's pretty cool; I even had a game that everyone at my school played online, and made some good money off ads and addicted players. :) If there is a web design class at your school, I'd recommend taking that.

Get a bunch of poor crack whores and give them cheap, diluted black tar heroin to sleep with a bunch of STD infected truckers in sleazy ass motels that rent by the hour.

But if that doesn't work, do what I do. Take every chance to sit out on an overbooked flight. I made $340 to spend the night in the Oakland Airport and read a book for english (Portrait of the Artist as A Young Man...it sucks) that I would have had to read anyway. It was a sweet deal.

Cono what are you doing with MySQL? (by the way HTML, CSS, XHTML, and SQL are pretty easy to learn, if anyone here is interested, lots of great stuff here W3Schools Online Web Tutorials)

Hmm... I'd say Cono uses mysql, because most cheap servers let you have mysql - databases for free... and mostly there's something like phpmyadmin (is it popular in non-german too?) preinstalled - very easy to use.
And maybe because you can just use XAMPP for testing, without installing an extra server.
But, if you can do SQL, you can do mysql, too.
