Can anyone suggest me a site wherein I can buy or sell used books??

At Mudd? I’ve heard that a fair number of frosh this year have managed to borrow all or most of the books they need from kindly other Mudders; it’s almost like a scavenger hunt for some of them. I imagine sales are equally personal.

If you mean in general, there’s… you know… Amazon.

That’s so cool! Everything I hear makes me happier about my son’s decision!

How (and when) do freshmen find out what texts are required?

Don’t sell your engineering/science books after classes!!
Keep them for future reference. I guarantee you will
regret selling them if you do.

I recall that some were sold by departments and announced by profs at the beginning of the semester. For others, Huntley Bookstore’s Web site allows searching by class and section. They’ll get walked through all that during frosh orientation; as a mom, I wasn’t involved in it at all. I know my son scored a complete set of books for his HUM class from a sophomore who’d taken the same class from the same prof. Remember, the Core is the Core – everyone goes through it and everyone before you has gone through it, so I think just reaching out to rising sophomores is one way to find out what books are necessary. Maybe this will be less true for the class of '14 since the Core is changing for them (right? or did I get my years mixed up?).

roble80 has a point worth considering about using the books for later reference. I tried to get my son to take this into account, but I suppose he can always pick up a copy (or borrow one again :D) if he needs to refer to one. And from my own college days, although I never sold my books back, I don’t think I referred to an old textbook more than once or twice. The one I taught from, yes – but the ones I studied from, not so much.

i actually want to sell my engineering books

@lavinpratap

pick me!

Also @lavinpratap: Why not just send an email to your dorm-l? Rising students will have their schedules soon if they don’t already, so it should be pretty easy to sell the books on campus.

The Huntley bookstore site lists most textbook information. The student portal does as well, which you well get access to in the summer if you’re an incoming freshman. If you’re really eager, send me a message and I can go onto the portal and give you the specifics for your courses. For the most part though, during orientation and the first week of classes is when the frosh seek out the upperclassmen to find texts, so I wouldn’t worry too much. Some people just write on the whiteboards outside their suites what books they have. I’ll be around South and I’m an orientation sponsor, and I’ll be happy to lend/sell a few books if you track me down that week.
