Buying textbooks on Half.com

Someone told me that textbooks on Half.com are cheaper than those at the campus bookstore. I found out that I can save around $190 if I buy brand new textbooks on Half.com, but I am not sure about the quality of the textbooks.

Can anyone give me some advice about buying textbooks on Half.com?
What questions about the textbooks should I ask the sellers?
How long does it take for the textbooks to arrive?
Is it possible to get a discount if I buy more than 1 book from the same seller?

I Have been having trouble with finding my textbooks and I have been trying to use Half.com. None of my ISBN numbers match anything on that site or any site. I would rather buy them from somewhere besides the UF Bookstore to save money but I can not find my books. Help!

look up the title and author then look through results for the right edition

maybe the textbooks you need are UF custom edition

I can only find out 3 textbooks that I need on Half.com, but these 3 books can save me about $190

While experiences will vary, I have been an extremely pleased half.com shopper for 3 years.

I would ask about the structural integrity of the book. You don't want it falling apart.

The books usually take a really short time to arrive. However, it all depends on the seller.

I've never heard of such a discount, but you never know.

Thanks a lot vincanity 1.
I will probably buy the books on Half.com

I have also been using half.com for three years with only one problem out of 22 orders.

Most likely UF put their custom ISBN number with the book. Just look up the author/title/edition on half.com.

what to look for?

Look at how many sales they have had. Some have 30,000+. But that doesn't mean some with 10 sales is bad.
Look at there rating.

thank you i will try that

I had good luck buying textbooks for much less at www.a1books.com Lots of the ISBN numbers didn't match, but it is the same book. Just watch the condition of the book (I chose new), and the edition #.

We used half.com for the last 2-years with no problems. Key is to make sure the edition is the one your instructor requires.

This is off topic but, if I buy my books at the UF bookstore before financial aid is disbursed it gets deducted from the total awards amount right?

How do you even receive the financial aid money? Is it sent straight to the Gator 1 card?

Yes, whatever you purchase at the bookstore (depending on the amount of your award.. the maximum is $500) is deducted from your account. All of your debts are paid before you receive any payments

To receive your financial aid/scholarship, you can set up direct deposit (to your bank account of choice) or receive a check in the mail. The transaction occurs after drop add. You can set this up through ISIS -> Financial Services -> EFT Sign Up

I bought all my books except Biology on half.com, and I'd pay the extra money to get Like New/or Brand New. You're still saving a ton of money, and I was extremely pleased with all the stuff I bought.

I bought books for Intro to Chem. German I, and Anatomy for a total of 361. With that 300 check from bright futures, I've only spent 61 dolllars! But, like I said, I still have to buy my Biology stuff, but I think I'm gonna buy that from UF.

i still can't find my calc book online. maybe the title is different from what UF is telling me? lol. sigh guess i'll just buy it from the bookstore.

check Amazon, too. Sometimes, it is hard to find the title right away. You might check the publisher's website for clues about the ISBN/authors. Then again, if it is a brand new book, it might not be readily available used. That happened to me before. The good news in that case is that you'll probably get a good % back when you do sell it online later.

yeah i checked amazon, ebay, half.com no luck though. it's Applied Calculus by Tan 6th edition. i found 7th edition but i couldn't find 6th edition

which calc is this for?

MAC 2233 - Survey of Calculus 1 (the business version, non-trig)

Is that tough? I saw that it is required for econ majors and was wondering as to its difficulty.

MAC2311 is harder or at least it should be. Its the science/engineering version with trig included (sin, cos, tan, cot, etc.).

**Vincanity I got your PM. I do have info about them. Just didnt feel like responding now; maybe friday. Busy week.
