By now, is it too late to apply?

I was planning on joining the military after high school, but certain circumstances disqualify me from joining. I took it for granted and didn't apply to any schools. I now regret it. I recently applied to the University of Houston, but honestly I'd rather go to UT.
I want to major in linguistics. Since the beginning of this year, I'm ranked 35/569. I've read on Wikipedia (I know) that UT is capping automatic admission for each percentage at 75%.

According to Wikipedia: "A new state law, Senate Bill 175, was passed by the 81st Legislature which modifies this admissions policy by limiting automatically-admitted freshmen to 75% of the entering in-state freshman class, starting in 2011. The university will admit the top one percent, the top two percent and so forth until the cap is reached; the university expects to automatically admit students in the top 8% of their graduating class for 2011."

Anyways, I was wondering if it is now too late to be automatically admitted. I am not of the same caliber as most of the students on this forum. This is my dream school. Should I submit essay C and recommendations just in case?

(To make it clear, I'm worried that the 75% cap has been reached).

Apply by Dec. 1st to meet the scholarship deadline! And write all three essays because it couldn’t really hurt you - only help you.

Just apply anyways and see what happens! I hope you get in!

I think you’ll be fine. I applied around Thanksgiving of last year, and I got accepted. :)

If your application is on time, you are an auto admit. They have to take everyone in the top 8%. It is projected that that will fill 75% of the incoming class, but if it fills 76.3% than so be it. UT set the cutoff at 8% with approval of the legislature based on past data, but they don’t just go to 75% and then stop admitting. They admit everyone in the top 8% that wants to apply and you fall under that, so get your app in and do it by December 1 so you can qualify for scholarship. Also, as most schools are closed the week of Thanksgiving break, go ahead and make your request for your transcript, even if you are not ready to hit the “submit” button. They will match up when your app gets there.
