C+ in AP Chemistry for First-Quarter of Senior Year

I am probably going to get a C+ in the first quarter of senior year. If this happens, this will be my first C on my transcript. So far in high school, I got 2 B+ and all As.

I applied ED to a top 30 liberal arts college. I have a parent that works there and I put on my application that I have an alumni connection. How will my chances of admission be affected by the C+? Will the grade be looked upon with a context of my school?

Any response to my question will be appreciated. Thank you.

It all depends which school you applied to. Some will look at first quarter grades. Some won’t look until mid-year. Some won’t look at all. Assuming the school is interested in looking at 1st qtr grades, compared to the rest of your grades, you should be fine. Many high school seniors have so much to do with applications their 1st qtr grades show a dip. Relax. But, uh, apply yourself, work up to your potential, blah, blah, blah.

IME, ED rarely looks at grades after Junior year for the ED decision - grades are typically on a semester basis and ED decisions are usually back before 1st semester grades are in.

Have they asked for updated transcripts, or is it mentioned in their application instructions?

If they do, or for RD: a C+ is obviously less desirable than and A or B, but one grade in one quarter, out of 80-90 throughout HS will have a small effect.

I remember my kids having to send first quarter transcripts for ED. Doesn’t mean all schools do. If they see that grade, it likely will hurt at the most selective schools for the most selective programs. There will be many applicants who will ace their first quarter, first semester, senior year.

I the schools don’t see it, then no effect on the early apps. RD schools will most certainly want first semester grades, so important you bring that grade up

My first quarter grades were sent by my guidance counselor and the college accepted it. Their website mentions that the first quarter grades are considered in the admission process for ED1.

Also, I emailed the admissions that the majority of the students in my AP Chemistry class got Bs for their first-quarter grades.

Adding on to my last comment, I had a personal circumstance that impacted my academic performance, which I also mentioned in the email. Will my explanation help my admission chances in any way?
