C+ in APUSH... ://

Hi all,

I am a high school junior and I am taking my first AP class this year, AP US History. I go to a notoriously academically difficult school, but I decided to take the AP because I got a 99 average in honors last year, plus I have never taken any other AP courses.

So fast forward to this year, I failed my first test with a 76 and there are only two homework assignments in the grade book now which make my average out to a C+. Yes, I know this can go up but I have a bad teacher and the curriculum is difficult.

Will this affect my shot at getting into college at all? My top choice dream school is Belmont University and I am planning on majoring in music therapy. I’m also applying to Nazareth College, Shenandoah University, SUNY Fredonia, and Charleston Southern University.

(My other current courses are Algebra 2 Advanced, regular Chemistry, English 3 Honors, Music Theory Honors, Acapella Singers Honors (highest choir at my school), and French 2 Honors.)

Any and all opinions appreciated.

80% acceptance rate?

I don’t see why not as long as you have a decent GPA overall. A bad grade in one class shouldn’t cut it, but you probably can improve from a C in just one test.

Now that you have seen what the tests and assignments are like, you should definitely be able to improve to a B-. Have confidence! An A is not needed here.

ಠ_ಠ You call that failing?

Almost nobody does well on their first test in an AP class. You will have plenty of opportunities to bring up your grade, don’t worry about it.

You need time to get used to the certain feel of APUSH tests- it’s a unique style (at least I found it to be) and it takes practice to master it. I wouldn’t worry.
