Hi everyone,
so I'm going to apply to couple of UC's this fall to transfer with an economics major.
So far I have completed 44 transferable units, almost done with igetc and berkeley's breadth. My problem is one C in second calculus (which is a major requirement course for all schools). All other grades - straight A's (so far). This adds up to 3.81 transferable gpa. Clubs, volunteer work, AGS - all included.
I know that re-taking this course wouldn't help much to my gpa (since they only look at the first course you've taken). Would you suggest to take the third calc in order to show that I am comfortable enough with advance math? Personally I am not that happy of that idea, I always felt that my knowledge in math was pretty solid, but wrong teacher/teacher methods/my-own-lazyness/lack-of-time/etc have proved me wrong and I am not so sure if I would be able to get an A.
Do you think I have totally ruined my chances of getting into Cal/LA/Davis?
Do they look at grades in major requirements or just at overall transferable GPA?

I don’t really see much benefit to taking Calc 3 since Econ majors only need 1 and 2. The UC’s look at all grades in all courses, including those in your major prerequisites.

I don’t think you’ve killed your chances at the top schools, especially if you can get a straight 4.0 in your remaining classes. Also, don’t worry about getting into Davis since I can pretty much guarantee you’re in there- just fill out the TAG.
