Cal Grant B and State University Grant?

I was talking to the financial aid advisers and they said that if we are qualified for the Cal Grant B and the State University Grant, that we will receive the State University Grant for the first year only + the Cal Grant B for all four years. However when I called again, another person that you can only pick between the Cal Grant B or the State University Grant. Can somebody please clarify? I would be in the clear if I received the State University Grant for the first year + the Cal Grant B for all four years, if not it will be a problem for me to pay for college. Thanks!

“For students who are initially awarded a State University Grant for fees and subsequently receive a Cal Grant or other fee paying source including any type of tuition waiver, the State University Grant will be cancelled.”

That’s from CPP’s website. To me that sounds like you can’t have both.

That’s what I thought too, but when I called to get clarification, they said otherwise.

As a freshmen and you have Cal grant B, you will receive the fees part ( $1500) and the SUG. However, starting sophomore year, your SUG will be replaced with the Cal Grant B Tuition part (should be worth the same amount as a SUG or more).
