Okay my EFC is 00000 and my family barely makes any money we make about 19000 a year for 4 people. Money was always a problem and I was I would not get enough money for college. Since I desperately need financial aid money is it possible for me to get both, cause that is what it shows in my financial package but I have done research and i have found out that you can’t get both. Also I am getting the Federal Pell Grant and Federal SEOG. I am wandering if under certain circumstances (like I am in where my family barely gets any money) I get both Cal grant b and State University grant?
Cal Grant B
Cal Grant B provides need-based grant funds to high-potential students from low-income, disadvantaged families to help offset tuition fee and other costs. Cal Grant B recipients must have a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA to be considered for the grant in addition to meeting the appropriate http://www.csac.ca.gov/post/cal-grant-income-and-asset-ceilings established by the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC).
For grant recipients in their first year, Cal Grant B pays a subsistence stipend (living allowance) to assist with non-tuition costs (living expenses, books, etc.). The living allowance award for the 2017-18 and 2018-19 award years is up to $1,672.
Recipients in subsequent years of study receive the stipend as well as an award to offset tuition fees.
State University Grant (SUG)
The State University Grant (SUG) is awarded to California residents for payment of state tuition fees, and is based on the level of financial need and the assessed State Tuition Fee each term. This grant will be reduced or cancelled if tuition fees are waived or paid by another source — including Cal Grants. The maximum SUG awards for full-time enrollment are listed below:
Undergraduate students - $5,742
SUG will be used for tuition costs and Cal grant B is used for non-tuition costs and after Freshman year can be used to help with tuition costs which may reduce your SUG after Freshman year.
So for freshman year I will get both the SUG and Cal grant b?
Yes, if they are listed in your FA package.
Okay thank you so very much!!!
