Hey guys, so I’m new to this site and I made an account just so I could ask this question, so bear with me if I come across as a newbie. I’m an AB 540 student about to start my third year at a community college. I was supposed to apply fr transfer in the fall of 2014, but there was no way was going to be able to afford it, what with federal grants being reserved for legal residents. So I had to sadly forgo my application. My plan was to take the DACA route, but its way too expensive for me to afford. My last option is to get a Cal Grant, which has been made available to AB 540 students, but this has proved to cause the most confusion for me. The Cal Grant site says that you need to get a FAFSA in order to get the grant, but the FAFSA requires a social security number. So how is an undocumented student without an SSN supposed to apply? Is there a way around it that I’m not aware of?
bump…
You need to complete a separate Dream Act application through CSAC. Here is the link for additional details: http://www.csac.ca.gov/dream_act.asp
You do not complete the FAFSA.
Thank you so much (I apologize for the late reply). So I’m aware that the Dream Act will give me fee waivers, but I had no idea that it can cover my Cal Grants as well. I’m super stoked now cuz I’m working on my Dream Act now!!!
