Does anyone know how well letters of appeal work? I just was denied from the waiting list
@lololololo, it is virtually impossible to appeal at Cal Poly. Unless you have new, material information that will change your application, like…say, a SAT score that is way better, that happened before the deadline, but after your application was submitted, your appeal will be denied. What is your grounds for appeal?
improved grades during senior year, new varsity sport, volunteering award
@lololololo, Senior grades are not considered, nor is improving trend. Awards are not considered. Sports are not considered per se, only total EC hours per week. If you played a sport in the fall, that won’t change on your application. You unfortunately don’t really have a case for appeal. You can try, but as I mentioned previously, appeals to Cal Poly virtually never succeed. Below is the information you need. Good luck, but don’t get your hopes up.
Are you notified by email if your status changes or do you just find out by checking regularly?
My D was taken off the waitlist at Cal. After she received her confirmation I told her to Decline. Hopefully it helps one of you. Good luck!
Yeah I got rejected for architecture as well!
do spots open up if some people decide to go to other schools after may 1?
@lololololo Yes. But it all depends on how -many- people, on freshman level and transfer level, decide to decline if they got accepted.
What if they already rejected you? Is there still chance??
@lololololo Unfortunately, no :c Once you’ve been either accepted or rejected it’s final.
I’m a transfer who’s supposed to decide whether or not I’m going to attend UCSD by June 1, but supposedly transfer decisions will come BY July 15th, so it could come before that but that’s the latest. That’s kind of a problem for me. What am I supposed to do? Should I just wait until the end of May and if it doesn’t come I’ll just decide for UCSD?
@dogsdogs Yes, I’m a transfer too in the same situation except I’m planning to go to Chapman. Although, I have read here that the later one remains on the waitlist even all the way to July, it’s just a delayed rejection.
Dang I guess the odds of getting off the waitlist are really small then.
@InTheNightSky95 Yep. Incredibly small. :c
@winonos that’s … disheartening, to say the least.
@InTheNightSky95 I believe on the first page of this thread, a typical year of admitting waitlisted applicants is around 30-50 people out of 1,000+. :c Last year was a really good year as less people accepted their admissions offers.
While there is only a small amount of people waitlisted on this thread, it’s not looking too great so far sadly. I’m still waitlisted myself.
