Cal Poly Fall 2017 Waitlist Thread

@winonos Yeah, plus I’m pretty sure no one in my major declined/ plans on withdrawing their offer and going elsewhere. If I don’t hear anything by June, I’m just gonna assume it’s a wrap. :’(

Any updates?

I’m a transfer on waitlist for mechanical. I still haven’t been notified on my portal for any kind of waitlist status. :frowning:

@lauriebell I’m waitlisted in the same department (aerospace tho). :frowning: I keep wondering if i did something wrong during the process of accepting my waitlist offer.

I’m still on the waitlist for mechanical, but I SIR’d to UCSB. There’s very little chance for engineering majors getting off the waitlist with how competitive SLO is for engineering.

I guess I’m SIR’ing somewhere else. :frowning:

I’m on the wait list for aerospace also, but I SIR’d to UC Davis last night. I’m pretty sure there’s pretty much no chance we’re getting in at this point.

Thats what I thought. :-< oh well, it would have been nice.

anyone hear back yet?

@jaleshaiker nope. :confused:

For freshmen, the likelihood of getting admitted off the waitlist this year is very slim. Around 550 more students than expected enrolled for Fall 2017. That number might change a little, but probably not a lot. I don’t know the numbers for transfers, but I’m guessing there won’t be many waitlist admissions there either.

What would my chances look like if I apply to SLO for business and will have all my prereqs done by the end of Fall 2017 except for a communications course of the golden 4? I will be applying this fall and I have All A’s in the prereqs so far (macro, financial accounting, stats, english comp.) i will take Critical thinking this summer and for Fall I’ll be taking business law 1, managerial acc, micro, and biz calc and com this winter. I go to a CC in Riverside county (soCal) my overall csu GPA is around 3.6 - 3.7 but it was 3.4 before this spring semester so it improved. The thing is if my chances look slim, I’ll have to take the regular calc series and apply to UCI for econ along with other UC’s for econ. So it would be nice if any of you guys can give me aome insight. I know not being local is a huge disadvantage, but stull inight would be nice

lol has anyone’s waitlist status changed?

Nope! My waitlist status hasn’t changed. Still waiting. I’m guessing they are just gonna deny pretty much everyone on July 15th. :frowning:

Wooot just got officially rejected

Rejected WOOOOO!!!

Can’t wait to attend UCSB

My daughter received her rejection notice yesterday also. As I told her, move on. She’s smart enough and has the grades, there just wasn’t enough room for everyone. But, I also told her I dont believe Cal Poly (or any school) should leave potential students dangling for so long. They have to know long before July 15th how many spaces they have open. I think everyone should be proud just for getting on the waitlist!

I think students have been admitted in Slo based on their first names, last names and their age.The average GPA for engineering majors was 3.5 in 2017. I passed all of requirement courses(more than 100 units) with GPA 4 and got rejected !!!

The average engineering GPA in 2017 was not 3.5.

I do agree that Cal Poly would have and should have notified waitlist students sooner. They knew no one was getting off the list when they figured out their yield was going to be massively higher than expected.

Trying to transfer to ANY university is extremely difficult. You are essentially vying for the spaces that have become available through students either being dropped by the university for low grades or students who have dropped out or have transferred . You are not competing with the incoming freshman class. My eldest daughter graduated from Cal Poly with an engineering degree. She entered Cal Poly as a freshman. Very few people drop out willingly and the attrition rate due to poor grades is small.
My youngest daughter wanted SFSU. She now realizes that Cal Poly should have been her first choice (she’s a business major). She has a 4.0 at SFSU. Please don’t carry a grudge. There simply wasn’t space. You obviously were qualified because you were put on the waitlist.
