Cal poly Pomona and UCs

Hi, I was wondering what are my chances at getting into Cal Poly Pomona and other schools such as UCI and UCR. I am entering my senior year and I have an accumulative 3.9 gpa but from grades 10-12 I have a 4.1. My score on the new SAT is 1100 but I plan on retaking it to get a higher score. I don’t have much extracurricular activities to put on my application. What are my chances at cal poly and UCs?

UC GPA (capped weighted)?

Intended major?

SAT is on the low side for UC’s and depending upon major for CPP.

CPP does not consider EC’s but UC’s will which could impact your chances.

Is CPP your local Cal state?

I went on rogerhub to check and it says I have an unweighted of 3.75,weighted of 4.31 and 3.97 in weighted and capped. Im not sure if the 4.31 is correct. I intend to major in business or a type of engineering major but I am still deciding. Yes cal poly Pomona is my local cal state. I know the SAT score is low but I intend on retaking it. If I do not get a better score is the score high enough for cpp. CPP doesn’t look at ECs at all?

For Business at CPP, I think you are good. For Engineering, definitely ump up your test scores and even more so for the UC’s. UCR/UCI Business and Engineering will be tough with current test scores. Although UC’s tend to be more GPA focused, you still need competitive overall stats.

Freshman admit rates (2016) for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19:

UCB: 14%
UCLA: 14%
UCSD: 44%
UCSB: 54%
UCD: 58%
UCI: 65%
UCSC: 85%
UCR: 94%
UCM: 96%

I would add CSU Fullerton and Long Beach to your list and if you get your test scores up a bit, SDSU. All have good programs for both majors.

Lets say I end with the gpa I stated above but I raise my SAT score to 1300-1400. Because I plan on taking the SAT 2 more times. If I accomplish this, what are my chances with cpp and my chances with the UCs. I have close to nothing to put on my college app. I have one club I participated in but I plan on volunteering a lot before applications are due. What are good amount of hours? If I get a good amount of hours will I make it in? If I don’t get the hours, will I still be able to make it? Thank you.

EC’s are not considered for CPP, so you should have a decent chance for Business, but a higher SAT score will definitely help for Engineering.

For the UC’s, GPA/Test Scores/HS course rigor and essays are Very important. EC’s are important and they like to see applicants do something outside of school so lack of EC’s is not an automatic rejection, but they do not want just academic drones. Also trying to add a lot of EC’s or volunteering hours as a last ditch effort will also not go over very well. All you can do is participate in some EC’s you enjoy but not for the sake of “looking good” for any particular college.
