You have a good chance at CPP.
Do you know if they take my college classes into consideration during the admissions process? I included my most of my college classes on my application, but not all of them. I am a concurrent enrollment student so I am one of the last groups to register for classes, so I have to take what is available and not always the ones that I want. I only listed the classes that I was confident that I could get and not the ones that I hope to take. On my application it shows 14 semester of math when really I will have 18, and history shows 10 semester and I will have completed 14. I may have lucked out and have a spot in a physics class this semester so that would increase my physical science from 6 to 8. I am not sure if I should call and try to amend my application, or if they even allow this. I have heard the Cal State rely primarily on GPA and test scores for admission decisions and probably will not even take my college classes into consideration. Cal Poly is definitely my school of choice and I am worried that based on my GPA and test scores alone I do not look competitive. I have heard the Cal State rely primarily on GPA and test scores for admission decisions.
The Cal States use an eligibility index (CSU GPA x800) + (SAT Math + CR) or (CSU GPA x200) + (ACT composite x10). They then rank applicants based on the EI for each major and accept starting with the highest EI until all the slots are filled.
Your EI is 3980/1000, so you are good in shape. I am not sure about the college courses through DE but they should be part of your transcript, so you need to let admissions know of any discrepancies that will show up on your final transcript.
I guess Cal Poly Pomona has changed since my parents went there. Then, if you had graduated high school and had taken the SAT, you could basically get in no matter what. Good luck, and you will probably get in. It’s still a state school - they can’t be THAT selective.
Thanks again Gunbymom. I was conservative on my application. I thought that it would be better to under-report my classes and grades then to over-report. The only discrepancy between my application and transcript is that I would have completed more classes and received a better grade in one of them.
Lots of the CSUs have grown more competitive over the years - CP Pomona among them, OP - you are a very solid applicant and shouldn’t have any trouble getting in.
Thanks for the reply NCalRent. I only applied to a couple of schools because I want to pursue a dual major in mechanical engineering a either animal science, zoology, or animal nutrition. There are not many schools that have strong programs in all these areas. The Cal Poly’s, UC Davis, Purdue, Texas A&M are the schools that I applies to that fit my requirements,. but I really want to stay in So Cal, so I also applies to UC Riverside and that is my back-up school. I would like to attend veterinary school and pursue research in animal prosthetic or canine and equine sports medicine and nutrition…
https://secure.csumentor.edu/planning/high_school/gpa_calculator.asp tells you how to calculate your GPA for CSU admission purposes. Note that a semester long transferable college course counts twice, and is considered honors (up to 8 +1 honors points may be counted).
