Cal Poly Regular Decision Thread 2016-2017

@momofboyz Since so many people were trying to compare stats, I copied and pasted that info from what someone much more knowledgeable than me posted. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/cal-poly-san-luis-obispo/1694769-confused-about-mca-score-p4.html post #52

DD2 Accepted to Materials Engineering; ACT 35 - not sure of GPA (over 4.0) or MCA score (did not calculate) (found out about 2PM today). In-state.

@goboy7089 Yeah, I got into biochem yesterday. I’m sorry…Don’t lose hope though, there may still be a chance.

sos I am a bio major with 4.14 CSU GPA (not including freshman year)
I got a 27 on the ACT (composite),
32 English, 27 Math.
1810 on the old SAT.
10 AP classes
21+ hours of community service
2 years of a foreign language, 5 years of science (honors bio, AP Chem, AP Bio, APES, AP Physics), 4 years of math (up to AP Calc), 2 years of art, 4 years of honors/AP english. I acquired 19 A’s, 5 B’s.
If you count my dark past (freshman year), I have received 21 A’s, 9 B’s, 2 C’s.
where do i stand?

For those curious about housing, accept/decline, and email: yesterday I got my acceptance on my portal and i just got my acceptance email. This morning, I accepted my offer into cp and a couple hours later new tabs were in my portal, including housing. It gave the list of housing that are open to freshman but says that the application won’t be open until March.

The MCA you all are calculating correcting or not (yes 750 is the max you can get for extra classes), comes from quite a few years ago, it is based on the old SAT, and who knows what if anything has changed. Many, maybe even most, miscalculate their own score, overstating AND understating. For those who think it is unfair that some students get bonus points while others don’t that is life. Most schools decide on subjective issues, do you think someone who got straight As by taking easy classes is more qualified than the student that took all rigor courses and maybe ended up with a 3.75? Should being a jock count more than being on the State winning debate team? For those complaining about rolling out the decisions, if Cal Poly gets tired of the complaints they could just decide to wait until they have them all done, send emails on April 1st, and slowly update the portals which have to be done individually. Would that make you happier or is it nice to hear earlier even if you aren’t the first person to know? EVERYONE is making guesses and assumptions, some make it clear, some state rumors and opinions as if they know for a fact the answer. Unless you work in admissions and understand exactly how the process works we are all guessing. There are different kinds of acceptances, some may be athletes who may or may not have less than optimum stats, some are veterans, or come from families where one or both parents never graduated high school, some go to schools without quality teachers or advisors who know about the benefit of taking an extra science or math course. Do you really think they don’t deserve a slight boost? It isn’t the majority I believe “special” admissions are less than 1/3 including athletes. It is tough waiting, but most of you want to hear from your other colleges too. The pressure is intense, but I can say knowing hundreds, probably 1000s of college students over the last 10 years that the vast majority love where they end up, even if it wasn’t their first choice, and some who got in and went to their first choice found it wasn’t for them and changed. Life goes on.

@pleasantondad- In the same boat with my son. Waiting on MechE, but no change. Only see one person in MechE posting here who was admitted. Disappointing it isn’t just all posted at the same time and people can know what is going on. Hang in there!

@Mitsy1 Several MechE posts - starting at about #847.

@ navyblue123 we emailed admissions and did receive a “generic” response similar to what you posted. However, not to our direct question asking if Biology major acceptances will continue to be posted beyond the initial posting this week? Obviously our concern is that applicants with lesser stats have been accepted and doesn’t fit the algorithmic selection process that we understand is being utilized.

Instate Comp Sci Accepted
3.8 GPA
32ACT

Does anyone know if SLO sends acceptances over the weekend?

@talguy I am still waiting for bio too. What are your stats

@sidthekid178787 In state!

LOWkey scared… IN STATE
A friend already got into SLO for E.E.
similar stats, same major, same ethnicity, same school
but I have not received anything
should I be worried or am I overreacting?

Waiting on my Bio Major Decision …
