Cal Poly SLO Fall 2014 - Waitlist Thread

So for those who are waitlisted, what is your plan? The email said transfers on the waitlist could find out almost as late as July 15th. The intent to enroll deadline for my second choice school (SDSU) is due on May1st… so what happens if I submit my intent to enroll and make the deposits, but Cal Poly ends up accepting me? I know I’d lose my deposits at SDSU, but would Cal Poly care that I already submitted my intent to enroll at another school?

@stevoleeto Nah, they’d understand because at that point you’d have to enroll in another school.

Waitlisted Business Admin - Transfer from Bay Area CC
GPA: 3.74
Quarter units completed: 71
Units in progress: 15, then 13.
IGETC will be completed after this quarter and major classes will be completed by the Spring quarter.
Best of luck guys.

Has anyone ever heard of someone getting into Cal Poly off the wait list?

Cal Poly is not expecting you to fail to enroll at any school on the slight chance you might get off the Cal Poly waitlist. It is expected that those on a waitlist will enroll at another school.

I got wait listed for Industrial Engineering. I already got accepted into Purdue and was expecting an acceptance. The statistics show i won’t get admitted from the wait list. Oh well.

Did anyone NOT get an email but were admitted? My daughter got an email a few days ago talking about housing opening up. Email said things like. You haven’t accepted our offer yet, we know you’re still mulling it, plus a link for newly admitted parents to sign up. It sure sounded like she was admitted. She searched and searched for an earlier email. No earlier email. Then she went online and it said she was admitted into Communications. She’s a transfer. Odd.

FYI, the email above only showed on iphone notification welcome page (you know, where it shows one line in a list of things), then disappeared. Because she saw it was from Cal Poly she searched all email folders. The email did not show up online, in any folder, nor in two mail apps. It finally showed up in the trash in a 3rd app, and everytime she moved it to inbox, it instantly reverted to the trash. This was what led her to go online. This particular email was about housing, as noted.

That was two days ago. The housing email has now totally disappeared in the one app where it showed in the trash. (She does have the recent open house emails and her earlier application emails from Nov.).

So… There is obviously something weird. Some of you who have not received an email about acceptance should check online.

We now figure an acceptance email got sent out but was permanently deleted almost instantly. Not sure if it’s being sent out via CSUMentor, but I already hated everything about CSUMentor. So no surprise there.

@lindky8 just to clarify, your daughter was never on the wait list correct?

Waitlisted for Business Admin, too…

I’m a transfer student living in NorCal with:

GPA 3.84
Two pending prep courses (they will be completed on time)
AA-T

Do ya’ll think that they’re going to take this semester’s (spring semester) grades into consideration for their final decision of the wait listed students? I hope not… cause I’ve been kinda slacking.

They usually don’t consider Spring grades as their final admissions unless the student fails in one of their classes or drop from a golden four class/the likes.

I’m guessing whoever is not in the waitlist at this point are rejected from SLO?

S was waitlisted for Materials Eng. 4.33 weighted GPA and 2140/2400 SAT. Our expectations were he would be admitted with these numbers, but guess not. He has chosen to be placed on the wait list, however my guess is by the time when and IF he were to be admitted off of the wait list he will already have chosen and become enthusiastic about one of his other choices.

Is anyone removing themselves from the wait list now that UCD, UCSD, and UCSB have released decisions?

^ That’s a good question. I hope people remember to take themselves off the wait list and/or click ‘Decline’ to their acceptances/offers when/if they find out they’ve been accepted to somewhere else they would want to go to or can practically go to, so others may have chances.

^While in theory that seems like the nice thing to do, for the individual, there is really no reason/motivation to make certain moves (declining or taking themselves off a list, etc) until May 1st. They should take the time to think about their decision, make sure they have all their info on their financial aid and awards and things from other schools while making sure their situation doesn’t change over the next month. They may find out things from friends or learn more things about a school over the next month that influences a decision that seems certain initially. So while it may seem courteous, committing early and pulling out of other options isn’t benefiting them personally in most cases. If you are on a waitlist you just have to be prepared to find out after May 1st (sometimes well into June) and consider anything earlier a surprise.

There is truth to what you said, too. Though, I had in mind people who have been accepted and wait listed and say, “Accepted! I doubt I will attend SLO because I really have no idea what I want to major in” and “I already knew I was going to get in, but will end up choosing (insert another university here)” …since they are convinced, I simply hope they remember to click “Decline” or take themselves off the wait list for others.

D got watlisted for Business. Is there any chance of getting in after may 15th?

Has anyone been accepted off the wait list yet? I want to know if I should still expect an answer by July 15 (I’m a transfer student) or if I may find out sooner.

I don’t see any reason that they would let us know any earlier. They’ll find out who doesn’t submit their intent to enroll for transfers after the deadline of May 1st. Sometime after that, depending on the available space, is when they’d start making decisions on the waitlist.

I’m transfer student too, and I’ve been placed on the waitlist.
